Web Developer I



Position Summary:

With direct supervision, program the content management for National University (NU) and affiliate websites by designing, coding and modifying, from layout to function and according to clients’ specifications. Strive to create visually appealing themes and plugins that feature user-friendly design and clear navigation.

Essential Functions:
  • Understands front-end and back-end technologies, including PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery and Application Programming Interface (API).
  • Designs and develops responsive design websites using web standards and user experience measurements; constructs user interfaces for NU websites and/or web applications.
  • Programs websites, mobile sites, and other digital projects based on customer requirements; ensuring all assignments are error free; maintains existing websites built in HTML and WordPress.
  • Develops themes, child themes and related functionality for a WordPress or other MVC websites.
  • Participates actively in the WordPress community and is a key stakeholder and visionary of future WordPress and content management.
  • Collaborates with internal clients to assess needs in development of themes, child themes, and related functionality for a WordPress multisite network.
  • Develop solutions using knowledge and experience with current web technologies, including React, VUE.js, Angular and other web technologies
  • Publish updates and new functionality via production workflow
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field, preferred;
  • Three (3) to six (6) years' relevant experience in programming and modifying different web properties; or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Adapting to new technologies and standards.
  • Core proficiencies include PHP, JavaScript, JQuery, HTML, CSS, MySQL, and Git.
  • Integration of third-party APIs and technologies with WordPress and other frameworks including the use of JSON, SOAP and other similar technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Javascript frameworks such as React and interest in developing proficiency.
  • Understanding and embracing of accessibility/WCAG 2.x standards
  • Develop UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how sites function and look like
  • Understanding and comprehension of Custom Post Types and WordPress Taxonomy structures.
  • Integration of third-party APIs and technologies with WordPress.
  • Ability to create and produce graphic materials using a range of media, methods and techniques and equipment, including knowledge of graphic layout and photographic requirements and procedures; Ability to translate designs (PSD, AI, Sketch) into functional Web interfaces
Travel : No travel required. Fully remote.
