Applications are invited for appointment as Associate
Director(at the rank ofSeniorLecturer)in theCommon Core Office (Ref.:517442), to
commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis,
with the possibility of renewal.
The Common Core (https://commoncore.hku.hk/) is HKU’s distinctive
form of General Education in which all undergraduates are required
to take six interdisciplinary courses across the four areas of
Science, Technology, and Big Data; Arts and Humanities; Global
Issues; and China: Culture, State and Society. Emphasis is placed
on interdisciplinary and interactive learning; creating
opportunities for students in Hong Kong and globally; developing
the Future Readiness Initiative; deepening engagement with the
Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and expanding the
Transdisciplinary Undergraduate Research Initiative.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree or equivalent and
demonstrate a strong commitment to innovative undergraduate
learning. They should also exhibit excellent interpersonal and
organizational skills and programme development skills to shape
cross-disciplinary and cross-sectoral undergraduate education.
Experience with teaching and administrative experience in
programmes with a mission similar to the Common Core would be a
The appointee will be engaged in delivering on various strategic
initiatives of the Common Core, bridging the T&L and
administrative functions of the Common Core. He/She will provide
leadership and support for the enhancement of interdisciplinarity,
active learning, and digital pedagogies; developing workshops for
teaching staff, tutors, and students; liaising with partners with
Hong Kong and overseas; and representing the Common Core to a
variety of constituents, both on and off-campus.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical
benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of
gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity
and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme,
totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be
provided as applicable.
