Overview

The Rabinowitz lab seeks a Research Specialist I or II in mass spectrometry to contribute to the operations and research efforts of their ~ 25-member team at Princeton University. The rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.

The Rabinowitz lab studies metabolism, with the overarching goal of applying this knowledge to the treatment of human disease (cancer, obesity, aging) and the production of biofuels. The lab is a leader in liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy (LC-MS) and isotope tracing of metabolism.

This position offers a competitive salary plus a comprehensive suite of benefits including health, retirement, and life insurance.

This will be a one-year term position, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon continued funding and satisfactory performance. The position is open and review of applications will begin immediately.



Responsibilities

Primary work responsibilities include:

Mass spectrometry instrument maintenance Sample preparation and analyses Organization and record keeping Interfacing with instrument company representatives For interested individuals, the position also offers the opportunity (but not requirement) to engage in method development, unknown metabolite identification, data interpretation, report writing, and organization of team research efforts, which will frequently include collaborators from U Penn, Rutgers, and other Princeton University labs.



Qualifications

Essential qualifications include:

Laboratory (or similar) work experience and skills; we are open to applicants with relevant skills from other disciplines Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in related field Desire and capacity to learn and master new tasks and techniques Interest, skill, and care in hands on work Communication and organizational skills Ability to work effectively in a team, as well as independently Reliability and attention to detail Additional (not required) qualifications include:

General knowledge and/or practical skills in one or more basic chemistry disciplines (analytical, physical, organic, biological) Ability to contribute to research projects and perform basic laboratory calculations Relevant technical skills such as mass spectrometry, chromatography, metabolomics, NMR, biological research *We are looking for a candidate who has related work experience, is a passionate learner, and has the commitment and persistence to take on new challenges. We are open to applicants with alternative educational backgrounds who demonstrate a strong record of work experience. We are willing to train the right candidate.*
