    POSITION PURPOSE: Within Student Affairs, the Department of Athletics services the entire community and its alumni. It is responsible for creating an institutional culture that is supportive of students. The department provides leadership in the development of services and programs that enrich student life, extend, and enhance academic experience, and contribute to an environment that encourages personal growth and development.

    Under general supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services, and under the lead direction of higher-level Student Services Professionals, the Student Services Professional IB assists Athletic Academic Advisors with monitoring academic progress and establishing an academic plan for student-athletes while creating an environment which fosters and supports retention and timely graduation, resulting in academic success.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    A. Assist with Monitoring & Evaluating Academic Progress
    • Under the lead direction of higher-level student services professionals, assist with ensuring compliance with
    • institutional, conference and NCAA eligibility requirements for assigned student-athletes.
    • Meet with students weekly/bi-weekly/monthly or as designated to gather academic updates and assist in following up
    • with academic success and overall wellbeing.
    • Refer student athletes to campus resources (SSD Office, Counseling, Health Center, CECE, etc.) as needed.
    • Assist in creating and implementing an academic plan for student success based on the individual student-athlete's
    • academic needs.
    • Assist with Competition travel letters and follow up with students-athletes.
    • Facilitate and encourage professor communication, contacting the FAR when necessary.
    • Send coaches weekly memos and updates.
    • Meet with Assistant Athletic Director for Academic as needed to provide updates.

    B. Assist with Academic Advising for Transfer Evaluation Review, Course Selection, & Registration
    • Under the lead direction of higher-level student services professionals, assist with providing academic advising
    • transfer evaluation review, course selection, and registration assistance to new and continuing student-athletes.
    • Keep all advising documents organized and updated in order to advise accurately.
    • Follow up with student and inform them of advising processes based on their academic major.
    • Run reports to assess holds on accounts. Communicate with students and coaches as needed.
    • Follow up with major academic professional and/or faculty advisor when necessary.

    C. Assist with Continuing Eligibility Certification Process
    • Under the lead direction of higher-level student services professionals, assist with the continuing eligibility certification process.
    • Update Progress Towards Degree charts per term and upload them to BOX in order to facilitate collaboration with
    • Registrar's office and certification.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or job-related field and one (1) year of recent related experience. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the appropriate knowledge and abilities may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, CREDENTIALS: Possession of a valid driver's license or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA's) –
    • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
    • Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management, research and interviewing techniques, and principles of individual and group behavior.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures, and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned, and the basic principles, practices, and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned.
    • Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation.
    • Ability interpret and apply program rules and regulations, gather, and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations, and present clear and concise information orally and in written reports.
    • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
    • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
    • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
    • Excellent communication skills: ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
    • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
    • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
    • Excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
    • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure.
    • Possesses a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.
    • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
    • Must be able to work occasional holidays, nights, and weekends, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Knowledge of NCAA Division I academic compliance regulations for entering and continuing student-athletes.
    • Experience working with Division I student-athletes.
    • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: SEDENTARY WORK – involves mainly sitting; minimal walking and standing; lifting light weight objects limited to 15 pounds.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS:
