ANTICIPATED HIRING RANGE: $1,391 - $2,000

    SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANT: This position will be at the CSUB Antelope Valley Campus in Lancaster, CA.

    **This is a 10/12 pay-plan designated position. Employees appointed on this 10/12 pay-plan position work 10 months of the year and receive the months of June and July off. Employees are paid an amount equal to 10 months' salary over a period of twelve months. This is a late start appointment and will require a July 2023 settlement. This settlement will affect the July 2023 pay amount.**

    CSU requires faculty, staff, and students who are accessing campus facilities to be immunized against COVID-19 or declare a medical or religious exemption from doing so.     POSITION PURPOSE: CSUB's Student Health Services Helps promote a healthy campus community by providing quality, caring, cost-effective healthcare and health promotion services. Student Health Services has physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, x-ray, clinical laboratory, and pharmacy services ready to provide basic health care to enrolled students.

    As part of an intuition of higher learning, Student Health Services participates in the educational process by teaching students the benefits of healthy lifestyle and risk reduction strategies in order to achieve academic, professional, and personal success. The medical assistant is involved in this process by being involved in direct patient care for CSUB students in order to help maintain a healthy campus community.

    DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    A. Clinical Care:
    • Patient Vitals: which include blood pressure, temperature, pulse, height and weight.
    • Short Visits: Pregnancy tests and simple UTI's.
    • Administer immunizations by intramuscular, intradermal and subcutaneous methods.
    • Performs throats cultures, ear lavages, visions screenings, and electrocardiograms as requested by physician.
    • Complete ppd risk assessments and initial ppd skin tests.
    • Responsible for ensuring all medications and materials are removed from the clinic before the expiration date.
    • Assist MDs the delivery of health care services as examinations, clinical procedures and medical treatments.
    • Assist in family planning, STD, medical abortion services to include providing information about pregnancy options and support in a caring, non-judgmental, factual manner.
    • Coordinate COVID-19 testing in support of campus policy guidelines and for symptomatic individuals.
    • Keeping dated log of vaccine daily temperatures.
    • Perform phlebotomy and CLIA lab testing

    B. Medical reception/Administrative duties:
    • Open and close office
    • Scheduling of patient appointments in person and on the phone
    • Checking in and out of patients
    • Verifying eligibility for patients requiring services
    • Miscellaneous billing and data entry for front office charges/missed charges
    • Family PACT billing: responsible for submitting and correcting the AV and CSUB main campus Family Pact billing
    • Cashiering: responsible for ensuring payments for services are collected at the time of visit.
    • Referral coordination: properly prepare student referrals to outside physicians, update as needed and follow-up for medical records as needed.
    • Performing all safety inspections of the clinic
    • Maintain clinic inventory of medical supplies and order any needed items
    • Maintain clinic for accreditation requirements and prepare for accreditation survey visits

    C. Medical Records:
    • Medical records requests
    • Scanning of medical documents into the electronic medical records
    • Completing mandatory reporting paperwork for CMR and worker's compensation
    • Maintain records and complete paperwork for ambulance transfers
    • Available for general office questions

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE – High School diploma or equivalent of education and experience which provides the required knowledge and abilities.

    LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, CREDENTIALS: Medical Assistant Certification or Complete in-house campus training in accordance with Medical Board of California.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES (SKA's) –
    • Knowledge and competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • University computer programs PeopleSoft, First-class.
    • Electronic Medical records, specifically Point and Click.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse patients.
    • Demonstrated customer service experience requiring a very high level of diplomacy and professionalism.
    • Ability to use tact and diplomacy to effectively handle a broad range of high level and sensitive interpersonal situations with diverse personalities, and to respond appropriately to conflicts and problems.
    • Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere in the University with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a diverse population and with those from various cultural backgrounds.
    • Excellent communication skills: ability to effectively communicate information in a clear and understandable manner, both verbally and in writing.
    • Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
    • Ability to interpret, communicate and apply policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set own priorities to coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
    • Excellent computer skills and competence with a variety of computer applications including word-processing, spreadsheets, databases, on-line systems, Internet as well as online calendaring and email.
    • Working knowledge of or ability to quickly learn University infrastructure, policies, and procedures.
    • Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
    • Must be able to work overtime, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.
    • Regular and reliable attendance is required.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • High School Diploma
    • MA Certification
    • Phlebotomy Certification
    • Demonstrated skills in an institutional/educational environment utilizing a customer-oriented and service-centered attitude.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: MEDIUM WORK – up to 40% of the activities involve sitting, standing, squatting, kneeling, or walking; lifting heavy weight objects limited to 50 pounds; may involve pushing and pulling objects within the weight limits.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

    SCREENING: Only those applicants possessing experience most directly related to the immediate needs of the office will be invited to appear before a Qualifications Appraisal Board for the purpose of appraising training, experience, and interest in the position.
