Florida Atlantic University’s Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is accepting applications for an Assistant Professor full-time, 9-month tenure track position beginning August 2023. Applicants with a background in pediatric speech sound disorders are preferred. Applicants with expertise in AAC, speech science, dysphagia, and/or the evaluation and treatment of culturally and linguistically diverse populations are also encouraged to apply. Successful candidates will provide high-quality teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and demonstrate and support a culture of diversity and inclusion. Candidates will be expected to establish a research program in their area of expertise. Dissemination of research findings in various formats including national/international conferences and peer-reviewed journals is expected. Opportunities for clinical supervision and summer instruction are likely.

The Department of CSD at FAU offers an accredited Master of Science degree in speech-language pathology and also provides prerequisite coursework. Selected candidates will have the opportunity to collaborate with other colleges and departments (e.g., Engineering and Medicine) and on-campus programs/centers (e.g., university lab schools, Memory and Wellness Center, Brain Institute).

Successful candidates may be eligible for an appointment at the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute (I-BRAIN, https://www.fau.edu/ibrain). I-BRAIN supports neuroscience research, education, and community engagement programs across multiple FAU campuses and colleges. Faculty members of I-BRAIN qualify for pilot grants, graduate student fellowships, research technology support, and subsidized use of I-BRAIN Core facilities including the FAU Cell Imaging Core and Neurobehavior Core. I-BRAIN faculty pursue research across the full spectrum of neuroscience, ranging from genetic and molecular neuroscience, cellular and circuit analysis of brain function, behavioral studies in models and man, cognitive and computational neuroscience, disease mechanism, and treatment studies.

The CSD Program is housed in the College of Education which is committed to creating an accessible, supportive environment and an educational experience that recognizes diversity and cultural competence as integral components of academic excellence. Minimum Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Ed.D. from an accredited institution in the field or related areas required by the time of appointment and ABD applicants will be considered

Eligible for Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech-Language Pathology from ASHA

Eligibility for Florida state licensure.

Demonstrates and supports a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Expertise in the differential diagnosis of disorders of communication and swallowing.

Ability to consult with other professionals to meet the needs of individuals with communication and swallowing disorders.

Provide continuing professional education to SLPs and to professionals in related disciplines.

Demonstrates a commitment to providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services.

Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds
