  • A terminal degree in one of the disciplines represented in the department.

Description of the Department or Unit

The Art Department is NASAD -accredited and has over 40 full-time faculty members and nearly 850 undergraduate majors. It offers BFA degrees in Graphic Design, Photography, Studio Art, and Art Education; a BA degree with concentrations in Art History, Art Management, and Studio Art (Fibers, Painting and Drawing, Metals, Printmaking, Sculpture, Clay); and BS degrees in Graphic Communications Management. The department has an honors program and a departmental gallery. The Art Department is situated in five buildings and has several full- and part-time support staff, including a building technician and two administrative assistants. Wey Hall, home to the Art Foundations program, is undergoing a two-year total renovation, which is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teaching three courses per semester.
  • Collaborating with faculty in the entire department on a strategic vision to advance the Art Foundations program.
  • Pursuing professional research and maintaining an exhibition record.
  • Leading and directing the Foundations Committee, a group of faculty who represent all of the degree programs in the department.
  • Leading and defining course objectives, outcomes, and project sequencing for the foundation courses in consultation with their colleagues in the department.
  • Collaborating with Art Department Chair to recruit, mentor, support, and retain adjunct faculty.
  • Engaging in service on departmental and university committees as well as service in community and professional organizations.
  • Managing program budget and resources.
  • Providing leadership to complete the annual assessment of program and student learning outcomes.
  • Continuing to develop a successful and diverse faculty and staff and foster a collaborative and collegial work environment.
  • Overseeing and directing maintenance of the Art Foundations studio facilities.
  • Being an active member of the Art Department leadership team.
