We are seeking a Sr. Financial Analyst who will
develop, plan, test and perfect financial tools that enable
scenario planning and what-if analysis that focus on
forward-looking choices. Must be able to quickly learn and
understand key institutional drivers and perform predictive
analysis, inclusive of the development of metrics and dashboards
for senior leadership. Perform analysis of financial reports and
data and prepare subsequent narrative analysis for management
inclusive of recommendations. Develop detailed financial models to
help reduce cycle times for annual budgeting, projections and
reporting. Utilize knowledge of the university's financial
accounting systems. This individual should have the ability to work
independently to achieve departmental goals, deadlines, and desired
outcomes/results. In addition, expected to collaborate and engage
key stakeholders of the financial planning and analysis process
(includes University, School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins
Medicine). Will report to the Director of Finance and
Accounting.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Plans and conducts complex analysis to determine cost of business activities.
- Interfaces with the leadership team by processing, communicating and providing recommendations based on solid business principles and analysis required to influencing business decisions.
- Recommends budget adjustments, and other cost improvement measures.
- Analyzes complex financial data and extracts and defines relevant information; interprets data for the purpose of determining past financial performance and/or to project a financial probability.
- Reviews costs and performs cost benefit analysis related to projects and/or programs.
- Performs complex cost and financial analysis of data reported in the various accounting systems.
- Develops complex financial models and reports for forecasting, trending, and results analysis.
- Interprets financial data and transactions of events for management making economic or business decisions.
- Reviews and evaluates current internal/external processes and makes recommendations for improvements for automating and streamlining routine tasks.
- Aids the department by organizing and prioritizing tasks required to achieving deadlines, department deliverables to include goals & objectives.
- Takes the lead role when meeting with internal stakeholders by understanding the objective, drafting agendas, effectively communicates with meeting participants and makes the required preparations to making the meeting and outcomes productive and value-added.
- Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, relational databases, and presentations/graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports.
- Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles as well as fund accounting.
- Recommends process improvements and follows through with implementation as approved.
- Documents processes and procedures as needed.
- On a regular and continuing basis, develops knowledge of the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures which may include some familiarity of other departments within the school/division.
- Exhibits sensitivity to the interrelationship of both people and functions within and outside the department.
- Have an insatiable desire to solve business
puzzles/challenges.

- On a regular and continuous basis, exercises administrative
judgment and assumes progressively increasing responsibility for
decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people,
costs, and/or quality of service within the functional
area.

- May direct the activities of staff or a function and/or
represent the function at meetings. Demonstrates leadership as
appropriate.
Communication
- Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service orientation with internal stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or related field.
- Five years progressively responsible related financial/accounting experience.
- Additional education (master's in a related field) may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
- Advanced knowledge in the use of spreadsheets, presentations and word processing required.
- MS EXCEL – Advanced, with demonstrated knowledge of Pivot tables, formulas and other advanced Excel tools and functions required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of financial software applications and database utilization/management preferred.
- Knowledge of SAP accounting system practices and implementation within the Hopkins environment desirable.
- Additional Microsoft Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Access) (strongly desired).
- REPORTING TOOLS – Business Objects or similar tools.
