Position Summary

The Department of Theology & Philosophy at Mount Mary University invites applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Theology to begin in August 2023. The area of specialization is open, but desirable areas of expertise include (each broadly construed) History of Christian Thought, Moral Theology, Current Moral Issues, Theological Ethics/Bioethics, Faith and Community, Theology Foundations, Women and Theology, World Religions, Latin American or Latinx Theology, African/Africana Theology, Post-Colonial Theology, and/or Environmental Theology. The successful candidate must be able to teach a range of courses, especially in the areas of historical and systematic theology.

This full-time, tenure track appointment requires a 12-credit per semester teaching load. The successful candidate will teach cooperatively with a philosopher in a joint-taught Core curriculum course, "Search for Meaning," as well as a variety of theology courses from introductory general education classes to classes in the Theology major.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience working directly with students from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Experience with online instruction preferred.

Strong candidates will be versatile, committed teachers and scholars. Teaching experience and a Ph.D. in Theology or Religious Studies completed by the start date are required.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Teaching "Search for Meaning" and upper-level courses in Theology.
• Active service to the department, University, and community.

• Engage in scholarly activities that support and advance the profession, including publication and/or presentation.
• Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned.

• Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusiveness and teaching and mentoring a diverse student body.
• Outstanding verbal, writing, and presentation skills; must be able to communicate and interact effectively with Mount Mary students, employees, and alumnae.
• Exceptional ability to multitask and prioritize projects.
• Experience and understanding of current issues and developments in higher education.
• Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work with diverse groups, facilitate group processes and foster collaborative decision-making.
