Position Overview:

Patrols the various parking lots on campus to enforce parking regulations, usually by operation of UCO's license plate recognition (LPR) vehicles but may also need to patrol on foot at times depending on departmental needs. This position will additionally assist with new student employee onboarding and training, physical and manual labor such as moving equipment, event setup, watch, and tear down, working outside on grounds, and helping with preventative maintenance.

Department-Specific Essential Job Functions:
  • Drive campus parking lots and scan license plates using LPR technology to identify parking infractions and safety violations.
  • Push out violation hits (pings) to the student ambassadors on foot (i.e., support) to validate and enforce as needed.
  • Continuously communicate with support throughout the shift, ensuring the route taken is straightforward and easy to follow.
  • Alert support to observed safety violations or other infractions that the LPR technology cannot scan for as needed.
  • Be willing and ready to pause the drive to help support catch-up on hit validation and citation issuance as needed.
  • At all times during a shift, including times of inclement weather (extreme hot/cold/rain), when support is riding in the vehicle instead of walking on foot, provide student workers with direction and keep them on task with citing, occupancy counts, breaks, and professionalism.
  • At times, may be expected to patrol on foot, validate pings, and report parking lot occupancy depending on the department's needs and staffing.
  • Communicates issues to the Field Supervisor, including any problems with student personnel, parking lots, money funds, or customer interactions.
  • Reports suspicious persons or activity to Field Supervisor, Transportation and Parking Services, and Police Services.
  • Reports to Field Supervisor any equipment issues or repair needs.
  • Answer questions and provide general parking information.
  • Assists in training and onboarding for all new Student Parking Ambassador positions, may supervise at time.
  • When requested, assists the TPS management with parking lot repair and general maintenance activities.
  • Works special events such as sporting events, graduation ceremonies, and some holiday events as needed.
  • In times of need, help other areas in Campus Enterprises as directed.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned, reports to Field Supervisor.
Qualifications/Experience Required:

Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and be able to operate a typical motor vehicle. Must have the below availability.

Hours per Week
  • 25 hrs./week, no remote work
  • Scheduled during enforcement hours (Monday – Thursday, 8 am – 9 pm; Friday, 8 am – 5 pm; and occasional weekends)
  • Shift A: Mon-Fri 8a-1p ; Shift B: Mon-Thurs 1p-6p & Fri 12p-5p
  • Applicant can work a mix of A and B shifts but, at a minimum, must be able to work five complete shifts (25 hours) a week.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred:
  • Must have good communication skills.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Skill in dealing with the public courteously, tactfully, and fairly.
  • Knowledge of computers and technology.
  • Ability to work various hours.
  • Must be responsible, punctual, flexible, and detail orientated.
  • Must have a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
  • Experience training and onboarding new employees.
  • Excellent public relations, communications, and organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership skills, and ability to aid supervisor in the training of new employees
  • Sensitivity to intercultural communication and good interpersonal skills.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Excellent public relations, communications, and organizational skills. Experience working in a customer service environment. Computer knowledge is essential; Ability to operate enforcement equipment (tablets, radios, printers, LPR vehicle console, etc.). Must hold a valid driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to work outside in various weather conditions. Ability to work various events, including some holidays and weekends. Ability to explain and enforce parking rules and regulations. Ability to report suspicious activity and safety infractions to supervisor.
