Lecturer of Philosophy
Philosophy and Religious Studies Department, School of Liberal
The Philosophy and Religious Studies Department in the School of
Liberal Arts at Marist College invites applications for a Lecturer
of Philosophy to begin in August 2023. Candidates should be able to
teach undergraduate philosophy courses at all levels, including
Introduction to Philosophy and Ethics as well as
upper-level philosophy courses in the candidate’s area of
expertise. We are particularly interested in candidates who can
teach some combination of American Social Thought,
Symbolic Logic, and our Knowledge and Reality
course. Candidates will teach our First Year Seminar
course regularly, and candidates will have opportunities to teach
courses in our Honors Program. A strong commitment to teaching and
mentoring undergraduates is required.
A Ph.D. in Philosophy. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching
effectiveness at the college level is required.
The teaching load will be 4-4 with a mix of introductory and
advanced courses. Lecturers need to be active in their professional
field, and participate regularly in service activities for our
students, Marist College, and the community.

About the Department and School:
The School of Liberal Arts includes 50 full-time faculty and over
75 part-time faculty. The School of Liberal Arts includes
departments in English, history, modern languages, philosophy &
religious studies, and political science, and many
interdisciplinary programs such as American Studies, African
Diaspora Studies, and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. In
addition, the ABA approved Paralegal Studies Program and the
Pre-Law Program are part of the School of Liberal Arts. The School
of Liberal Arts also houses the Center for Civic Engagement and
Leadership, the Hudson River Valley Institute, the Weiss Language
Center, the Writing Center, and the Marist Theatre Program.
