Job Summary

The Office of Information Technology encourages applications for a Windows Endpoint Administrator! This position will be responsible for determining the standard processes and procedures for deploying and running campus Windows lab endpoints. The Administrator will be building and deploying OS images, building and deploying sophisticated software packages, and will be a domain expert for the LST Windows Labs team. This position will work alongside other full time staff team members and collaborate with the Endpoint Management Services (EMS) team, the Identity Management (IDM) team, and the Systems Engineering (SE) team that provides infrastructure services in support of labs and virtual software deployments. This position provides advanced support for all Windows labs and requires experience with Microsoft management tools such as MECM and Active Directory.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Windows Client Management:
  • Serve as a technical lead for management and deployment of software to Windows clients in campus computer lab environments. Design and implement technologies and processes that provide sophisticated software to clients and leverage sound management practices. Work through complex software requests to support instructional needs and determine the best solution to deploy to lab endpoints. Be able to work with a large software catalog spanning over 300 different software titles and navigate the intricacies of managing and deploying these titles to multi-user lab endpoints across campus. Be fluent in packaging of software with custom configurations that will be unique to different end-users. Work directly with end-users to understand their needs and to help guide decisions on how to deploy software to lab endpoints. Determine manageability requirements based upon operating system specifications and evaluate its benefit to the work unit and end-users using current industry directions, staffing and support requirements, and technical merit. Determine the technical direction the work unit will take in future deployments of Windows OS’ and software, taking into account industry directions and the needs of the end-user.

Windows Deployment and Design:
  • Serve as a domain expert for processes related to deployment of Windows endpoints and day-to-day management of Windows lab environments. Responsible for design and configuration of the Windows operating system that support multi-user environments as well as the policies that govern the end-user experience. Responsible for the design and management of the unit's Active Directory organizational unit as well as the policies that govern hardware and software behavior in the designated groups. Work with various IT groups on campus to use campus identity management services and cloud services (i.e. cloud storage and virtual environments). Leverage Windows deployment technologies and tools (such as MECM) as appropriate, including creation of software templates and the documentation required for these types of deployments. Determine the technical direction for future Windows deployments, taking into account industry directions and the needs of the end-user.

Temp and Student Staff Management:
  • Act as an authority in Windows software and OS deployments for the unit. Provide guidance and knowledge to temporary staff and student workers to help the work unit succeed in their job duties. Effectively manage temporary staff and student workers and act as the hiring manager for these positions. Develop and perform training of Windows OS management skills to temp and student staff.

  • Salary: $82,000 - $85,000.

What We Require
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution. A combination of education and/or related experience as described below may be substituted for the degree on a year for year basis.
  • 3 years of experience which includes the following:
    • Deployment of Windows devices in an enterprise environment
    • Integration of Windows client operating systems with Active Directory Management of Windows client operating systems with Group Policy Objects Working with Windows client management tools, specifically MECM, sysprep and image creation, and Remote Desktop.
    • Microsoft training and/or certifications in MECM.

What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience with virtual desktop and software deployments.
  • Experience building Windows software images in virtual desktop environments is highly desired.
  • Experience with Ivanti User Workspace Manager (formerly known as AppSense).
  • Experience with package building software such as EMCO MSI Package Builder.
  • Development using scripting languages like PowerShell and Batch.
  • ITIL Foundations Certification desirable.
