Operations Manager



Shenandoah University’s Division of Applied Technology is accepting applications for an Operations Manager. This is a full-time benefited position located on our main campus in Winchester, Virginia.

Shenandoah University’s Shenandoah Center for Immersive Learning (SCiL) is a cutting-edge design research center, housed in the Division of Applied Technology (DAT), that specializes in virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and extended reality (XR) technologies.

SCiL and DAT are seeking an experienced operations manager to facilitate a variety of day-to-day activities for the center and the division. This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic applicant who is interested in working with innovators, designers, and advanced technologies in a creative, curious, student-centered academic environment. Join a team of motivated faculty researchers, skilled designers, and talented, enthusiastic undergraduate students. Facilitate ground-breaking projects in areas such as immersive history, VR video games, training simulations, 360-video production, drone photogrammetry, education, opera, dance, voice performance, and much more.

Required Skills

Must Haves:
  • Exceptionalwritten and verbal communication skills;

  • Aproactiveapproach to day-to-day and long-term strategic initiatives;
  • Apassionfor undergraduate education and mentorship;
  • Inspiringly collegialinteractions with faculty, staff, and student colleagues.
Strong computer skills, along with an aptitude for learning about new technologies and proficiency with office productivity software (word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools).

Nice To Haves:
We would especially welcome specific experiences with:
  • Contemporary VR/AR headsets and systems (Quest series, Valve Index, Hololens, etc.)
  • Graphic design techniques and visual communication tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Project management (processes, tools, best practices, etc.)
Required Experience

A bachelor’s degree and 1-5 years of work experience related to the following:
  • Project coordination and task delegation

  • Communications (including with University leadership and external clients)

  • Budgeting, payroll, purchasing, and reconciliation processes

  • Scheduling, meeting, and travel coordination

  • Record keeping and equipment organization

  • Event planning for educational sessions and SCiL showcases

  • Interacting with prospective students and VIP visitors

  • Day-to-day oversight of resources and student personnel

  • Support of academic operations (scheduling DAT courses, hiring adjuncts, etc.)
