The Department of Kinesiology and Nutrition at the University of Illinois Chicago invites applications for an Open-Rank Clinical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor faculty position for a teaching and mentoring focused role in the Performance, Sport, and Exercise Psychology program. The program is aligned with the Association for Applied Sports Psychology requirements for students to achieve Certified Mental Performance Coach status.
We seek a faculty member committed to teaching excellence to work as part of an outstanding instructional team supported by award-winning advisers and academic professionals.
This role would contribute to teaching in-person and online teaching for courses such as applied sport psychology, resilience, non-sport populations, psychology of sports injury and recovery, positive psychology, practicum, and Internship mentoring and supervision. In addition, faculty service is expected, applied research is promoted, and modeling the application of positive psychology principles with students, faculty, and staff is welcomed.
The position requires a terminal degree in counseling, psychology, social work, education, kinesiology, sports psychology, or a related field. The successful candidate must be a member in good standing with the Association for Applied Sports Psychology (AASP) and ideally have attained Certified Mental Performance Consultant status and eligibility as a registered mentor. The ideal candidate will have two years of practice experience outside of academic settings and teaching experience in a traditional 4-year college or non-traditional environment, e.g., military, civil service, agency, first responder academies, professional sports organizations. In addition, the candidate will have student supervision/mentoring experience, familiarity with project/problem-based learning, and commitment to integrating knowledge, skills, and competencies for applied health professions, performance coaching, and consulting.
