Position Summary

The web content specialist plans, edits, organizes and posts web content to engage current and prospective students. Responsibilities include ensuring quality and accuracy of the content on the university’s website, training and supporting users across campus, and being an ambassador for brand, style and accessibility.

Major Responsibilities

Job Responsibilities:
  • Work with departments and offices to build and edit websites
  • Train users on the university web content management system
  • Provide superior customer service to constituents and form partnerships with employees across functional areas.
  • Provide guidance to users on best practices for web content
  • Copyedit web content in a timely manner to ensure overall accuracy and consistency.
  • Perform image editing and optimization.
  • Ensure adherence to brand and style guidelines.
  • Create/update content to comply with accessibility guidelines ( WCAG 2.0 Level AA)
  • Regularly review university websites to ensure accuracy, accessibility, brand consistency and best practice implementation
  • Use content audits, quality assurance reporting, analytics and usability testing to assess ways to improve the university’s website
  • Curate engaging content for prospective students
  • Respond to queries from public-facing forms, e.g., Contact Us, broken links
  • Review website for user experience weaknesses; propose and develop improvements
  • Contribute to overall online strategy and marketing initiatives
  • Mentor two to four Work-Study students and student interns through marketing projects and deliverables
  • Create and maintain Marketing Office forms
  • Stay on top of web trends and best practices while upholding university branding and website standards

Job Requirements:
  • Motivated, well-organized, conscientious
  • Basic technical knowledge of HTML and online publishing
  • Excellent and conscientious written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior technical skills and demonstrated ability to learn
  • Knowledge of the Associated Press Stylebook
Functional and Supervisory Relationships

Reports to the assistant director of web and digital marketing, works with the entire campus.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience with front-end website development and content creation or editing
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, English, journalism, electronic media, computer science or related field of study.
  • Experience using a web content management system or other web development tools
  • Evidence of expertise in web coding languages like HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Evidence of familiarity with web accessibility standards ( WCAG 2.1), SEO, page optimization and general best practices
  • Google Analytics and AdWords certification and/or evidence of proficiency
  • Experience working with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly image editing and optimization in Photoshop
  • Experience with Siteimprove
  • Experience with end-user training
  • Experience with Asana, Trello, Teams, or other project management and collaboration tools
