Position Summary

The Institute of Native American Studies at the University of Georgia invites applications for the position of Institute Director. The Director will be a tenured Associate or Full Professor and have a tenure home in Franklin College of Arts & Sciences.

The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses (with a 1-1 teaching load) and maintain an active research agenda; serve as chief administrator of the Institute and presiding officer of its steering committee and faculty meetings; coordinate INAS programming, curriculum development, and Native American student and faculty recruitment in the interest of growing Native community on campus; administer the INAS budget and scholarship program; lead collaborative efforts between INAS and other programs on campus and the emergent Southeast Native American Studies Consortium; and serve as one of UGA’s liaisons with our tribal research partners and affiliates with an interest in the state of Georgia.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants with a Ph.D. in Native American Studies, or a related field are encouraged to apply, but candidates from other academic disciplines and fields of specialization are also welcome.

Candidates considered for the associate or full professor rank must have qualifications and academic credentials that are commensurate with the promotion and tenure guidelines at the University of Georgia.
