Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Faculty A, level 1 position. Starting salary range: $50,796 - $59,262/annually, depending upon experience.

Job Summary:  

The Instructor, English (Developmental and Composition Focused) position is responsible for instruction and development of curriculum in the School of Arts and Sciences. As a member of the English team, the person in this position will work closely with other faculty to build a robust curriculum for our students. 

Full-time faculty are offered provisional status upon employment. Full participation in the Faculty Academy is expected throughout the provisional period; faculty are eligible to apply for continuing contract status in their fourth year of full-time employment at LCCC. All LCCC faculty are supported by the Faculty Academy within the Center for Excellence in Teaching.

Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional need.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

All LCCC faculty are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the competency areas appropriate to their faculty level as defined in the College’s Administrative Procedure 2.17.1P. In addition, requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position include.

  • Skill in applying the appropriate teaching techniques and methods in classroom and/or online instruction
  • Ability teach course content that is consistent with the official course outline of record and use pertinent course materials at an appropriate level
  • Ability to establish a student-instructor relationship conducive to learning and promote active involvement of students in learning activities
  • Advanced working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications

Physical/Mental Demands:

  • While performing the essential functions of this position a variable work schedule may be required including long workdays, evenings, and weekends as needed
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds to perform essential position functions
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to travel when necessary

Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:  

  • Master’s degree in English, English Education, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution or Master’s degree and 18 graduate credit hours in English.

All LCCC Faculty are required to meet the minimum faculty qualifications as defined within the College’s Administrative Procedure 2.7P. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree English, English Education, or closely related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Experience with web-based learning management systems
  • Four or more years of composition teaching experience and success with diverse populations (e.g. developmental, at-risk non-traditional, first generation, students with learning and other disabilities).
  • Two or more years of experience teaching developmental and co-requisite courses with a focus on integrated reading and writing
