Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor of Special Education/American Sign Language

About this Opportunity

The Department of Special Education invites applications for a full-time Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Teaching Professor available for the 2022-23 academic year, with the potential for an initial 3-year contract based upon qualifications. This contract is renewable for two additional years after the initial three-year contract. Our department is seeking faculty with strong interpersonal skills who value collaborative teaching approaches to promote cross-disciplinary knowledge that will serve our graduates in their careers. Preference will be given to candidates with demonstrable teaching skills in guiding the growth of academic programs and curricula and working experience in teaching.

The Department of Special Education has a full-time contract faculty position available in August 2023. The faculty member assigned to this position will assist in teaching and related programming activities in Special Education: American Sign Language ( ASL ), aid in collecting data for departmental reports, providing program input and development, and support our ASL lab.

Minimum Qualifications

A. Earned MA or MS degree in American Sign Language Studies, Deaf/Deaf Culture Studies or related field from an accredited institution.
B. Minimum of 3 years of ASL teaching experience in University or College setting.
C. ASLPI score of 4 or better in American Sign Language ( ASL ).

Authorization to work in the US

Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.

Preferred Qualifications

A. Knowledge and experience in various ASL curricula, materials, and resources.
B. Have a Doctorate in American Sign Language/Deaf Studies/Linguistics/Adult Education related field.
C. ASLPI 4+ or better.
D. Experience working in ASL Lab
E. Familiar with Technology such as Microsoft Office Suite, Canvas or other LMS, and video recording and editing tools.
F. Have a strong involvement in the Deaf community.

Required Certifications/Licensures

ASLPI score of 4 or higher.
