The School of Education in the College of Public Affairs and Education at the University of Illinois Springfield seeks a scholar with specialization in culturally responsive educational practices related to one or more of the following: special education, school psychology, bilingual/ESL education, digital pedagogies, elementary/early childhood literacy, or related fields. This is a full-time on-campus position tenure-track academic appointment beginning August 16, 2023. UIS tenure-system faculty are expected to be available and engaged in the campus community, with assigned professional responsibilities for teaching, scholarship, and service.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching: The faculty member for this position will teach across teacher education and educational leadership courses. The proposed courses include a wide range that will be determined by the subarea/s expertise of the new hire. Potential courses include TEP 207, 222, 224, 305, and/or 315. EDL 541/505: 70%

Scholarship: The successful candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly research and publication related to urban education and/or related fields: 20%

Service: Willingness to engage in service and to assume leadership roles in the School, College, University, State, and the PK-12 profession are expected: 10%

Minimum Qualifications:

Candidates must have an earned doctorate completed by August 15, 2023 in Urban Education or a related discipline, as well as a record of/potential for excellence in scholarship and teaching;

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in an urban educational setting;

Disciplinary background, particularly in the areas of urban education with a sub-expertise in special education, school psychology, bilingual/ESL education, digital pedagogies, and/or elementary/early childhood literacy;

Demonstrated excellence in supporting the academic achievement of Black, Latinx, and/or Indigenous students; Experience using a variety of technologies to design and deliver instruction or willingness to learn;

Capacity for collaboration with PK-12 and higher education professionals, and Interest in participating in the development of innovative, culturally responsive curricula
