Instructional Designer

 

Position Summary:

 

The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) is seeking a highly motivated Instructional Designer with an innovative and collaborative mindset to join the UConn eCampus team.  eCampus Instructional Designers work collaboratively with faculty and production teams to design and develop courses and educational content for credit bearing courses and non-credit offerings. They also collaborate with colleagues in CETL and across the University to develop and present faculty development and training related to best practices in course design, development, and teaching across learning modes and environments.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Collaborate with faculty to design online and other mixed modality courses 

     

    Edit and revise activities, materials, assignments, modules, and other content as needed to support improvement of existing online, hybrid/blended, and in person courses.

     

    Use a course design plan to develop course content, including learning modules, activities, assessments, and instructional materials.

     

    Serve as a liaison while collaborating closely with faculty, department leads, eLearning Developers, vendors, and publishers to ensure tasks are completed and deadlines are met.

     

    Guide faculty through the roles and responsibilities of an online instructor.

     

     Analyze course data with the instructor to revise and improve student learning outcomes and objectives in current and future course iterations.

     

    Create and facilitate research-based professional development opportunities/programs for faculty, including individual consultation, online training materials, workshops, and webinars.

     

    Collaborate with eLearning Developers to design, build, and revise eCampus websites and related materials

     

    Research emerging educational technologies and best practices to improve educational outcomes and support the University mission.

     

 

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

  • Master's degree in instructional design, education, educational technology, curriculum and instruction, or a closely related field.

     

    Two to three years of related experience.

     

    Current research in teaching and learning specifically in relation to online and hybrid/blended education in higher education.

     

    Best practices, principles, and methods for curriculum design, development, implementation, and evaluation for individuals and groups.

     

    Research-based standards related to the design and development of high-quality courses.

     

    Experience using Instructional design models and theory-based practice in higher education.

     

    Knowledgeable in current research in teaching and learning specifically in relation to online and hybrid/blended education in higher education.

     

    Experience using best practices, principles, and methods for curriculum design, development, implementation, and evaluation for individuals and groups.

     

    Experience developing and maintaining online course materials.

     

    Experience with identifying the most appropriate solutions for a given educational challenge by applying theoretical ideas and guiding principles of curriculum design.

     

    Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written means.

     

    Respects diversity and works collaboratively with individuals of diverse cultural, social and educational backgrounds 

     

Preferred Qualifications: 

 

  •  Experience implementing nationally recognized standards of course design (e.g., Quality Matters, Online Learning Consortium, etc.).

     

     Demonstrated ability to apply accessibility standards to a wide range of media and web-based content.

     

      Experience creating and managing course content and activities using third party digital content and authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, iSpring, SoftChalk, etc.).

     

     Experience designing and developing high quality large enrollment online and hybrid/blended academic courses.

     

     Experience designing and developing high quality large enrollment MOOCs.

     

     Experience integrating adaptive learning software and products into higher education courses

     

    Demonstrated ongoing professional development and cultivation of professional networks related to higher education, instructional design, and emerging research related to online teaching and learning.

     

     Demonstrated ability to use outstanding interpersonal communication skills and work as a collaborative, collegial, and supportive member of a team.

     

 

Appointment Terms

 

This is a permanent full-time, twelve month position, with a schedule of 35 hours per week, with an excellent benefits package including medical, dental, and retirement. University working hours fall typically between 8:30am and 4:30pm, but there may be some flexibility related to working hours.  This position is based on the main campus in Storrs. A hybrid work schedule may be possible subject to authorization and University policy. Other rights, terms, and conditions of employment are contained in the collective bargaining agreement between the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Professional Employees Association (UCPEA). The anticipated hiring salary range is $62,000 - $70,000 commensurate with qualifications and experience.
