The mission of Ohio University’s Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment (CTLA) is to support faculty development and strengthen faculty competencies related to teaching, learning, and assessment. To achieve its mission, the CTLA provides university-wide support and coordination in five functional areas:

 

  1. Faculty development related to teaching, learning, and assessment, including workshops, academies, consultations, a digital resource library, and external training/webinars.
  2. Faculty collaborations related to teaching, learning, and assessment, including faculty learning communities, faculty fellows, teaching & learning conferences, a peer teaching observation program, and a mentorship academy.
  3. Assessment of student learning outcome achievement, including training, consultations, and resources to advance program assessment, General Education assessment, and student success.
  4. Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) involving faculty research networks, seminars, and promotion of SoTL and Discipline-based Education Research.
  5. University policies and procedures related to teaching, learning, and assessment, including collaborations with the Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Committee; Faculty Senate’s Educational Policy and Student Affairs Committee; and the University Curriculum Council.


The Associate Director for Assessment position will be primarily responsible for CLTA activities related to university assessment and Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL). The CTLA Associate Director for Assessment will provide leadership on strategic and operational initiatives to (1) advance excellence in assessment across the university, (2) collaborate with university offices and committees to assure quality assessment practices across the university, and (3) manage programs designed to improve equitable student outcomes. The position reports to and collaborates with the CTLA Executive Director to set goals and metrics and achieve identified benchmarks.

Primary duties include:
1. Strategic Planning for the CTLA functional areas (a) assessment of student achievement of learning outcomes and (b) Scholarship of Teaching and Learning:

  • Coordinate with the CTLA Executive Director and Office of the Provost to establish and measure achievement of annual goals.
  • Coordinate with the CTLA Executive Director and Office of the Provost to identify faculty development needs and design a system of programs and initiatives addressing those needs.
  • Maintain a climate that encourages and facilitates interdisciplinary engagement, student-centered teaching and learning, collegiality, and innovation.

2. Program Creation, Delivery, and Evaluation for the CTLA functional areas (a) assessment of student achievement of learning outcomes and (b) Scholarship of Teaching and Learning:

  • Plan and deliver existing/new CTLA programs for OHIO faculty and other instructors.
  • Direct, manage, and evaluate CTLA faculty fellow(s) and their initiatives.
  • Measure the effectiveness of programs and initiatives.
  • Continuously improve programs and initiatives based on assessment and evaluation of effectiveness.
  • Consult with academic units, faculty groups, or individual faculty to advance faculty competencies.
  • Prepare semester and academic year reports on programmatic effectiveness.


3. Assessment Management

  • Coordinate with the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics (IEA), and University Curriculum Council (UCC) to manage seven-year program reviews.
  • Coordinate with the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics (IEA), and University Curriculum Council (UCC) to manage program assessment.
  • Coordinate with the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education, Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics (IEA), and University Curriculum Council (UCC) to manage general education assessment.

4. Other duties related to assessment and/or Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, including (but not limited to) academic software evaluation, data collection, data management, etc.
