Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Acting

Elon University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Acting, beginning mid-August 2023.

This position requires an MFA degree in Acting or a terminal degree in a related field, teaching experience, and professional experience in the discipline. We seek someone skilled in collaboration who demonstrates expertise in action-oriented Stanislavski-based acting pedagogy.

Teaching will include Acting II (a cohesive, action-oriented Stanislavski-based technique), contributions to the Voice and Movement curriculum in Acting, courses in other areas of specialty, and courses in the Elon Core Curriculum. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will maintain an ongoing creative agenda and/or research program and be expected to contribute outside of the classroom to the life of the Acting program, Department of Performing Arts, and the university. The Department of Performing Arts offers conservatory-style training within a liberal arts context. Along with the Acting BFA program, the Department of Performing Arts houses BFA programs in Music Theatre and Dance Performance & Choreography, as well as Theatrical Design & Technology (BA), Drama & Theatre Studies (BA), Dance Science (BS), and Arts Administration (BA).

Preferred qualifications include expertise with a movement pedagogy such as Lecoq, Chekhov, Laban, or Viewpoints, and an ability to contribute to the Department’s robust production season through activities such as dialect and vocal coaching, stage combat, movement coaching, or directing. Candidates who can teach a recognized vocal pedagogy or who have experience with new media are encouraged to apply.

Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter. Elon is a dynamic private, co-educational, comprehensive institution that is a national model for actively engaging faculty and students in teaching and learning in a liberal art based residential campus.
