Human Resource Services (HRS) invites applications for a Human Resources Information Systems Specialist .

You will join the systems team responsible for timely, efficient implementations of HRIS update releases; analysis and evaluation of the effects and consequences of updates; determining optimum implementation deadlines; and testing proposed and finalized update results.

Your responsibilities will include reviewing current utilization of our HRIS Banner and making recommendations for new and/or unused system processing features; working closely with the HRS/Payroll systems and compliance teams to identify the cause behind database errors and recommending/implementing corrections; working with the teams to implement new and updated software requirements, such as applicant tracking and time reporting; providing appropriate information regarding third party system requirements; and explaining and demonstrating software solutions to users while maintaining a dialogue with them throughout the testing and implementation process to review, revise, and refine software testing and implementation.

You will have the opportunity to provide technical training and advice to users at all levels; develop an understanding of the business of the user offices to articulate the user perspective as well as the information systems perspective; work with users to identify and solve problems in a variety of systems; serve as a consultant on all campuses; create and disseminate ad hoc reports; grant access to HRS systems; write and maintain user and system request documentation, such as change/implementation request specifications, flow diagrams, file layouts, data entry manuals, screen and print layouts, and training/presentation materials; and participate in developing standards for HRS systems usage, data dissemination, and documentation.

This position is designed for a Career Ladder and may progress to a Computer Systems Analyst III as higher-level knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience are attained.

  • Communicating effectively with a wide variety of individuals and groups with diverse backgrounds at all levels both on and off campus, including demonstrated verbal, listening, presentation, technical writing, and written communication skills with the ability to use Zoom, Teams, Outlook, and Skype.
  • Managing projects with the ability to plan and follow through while keeping the team updated on progress.
  • Utilizing report writing systems such as SQL or Access and being able to understand and apply integrated database structures.
  • Demonstrating sound judgment; using troubleshooting, analytical and critical thinking skills; and using time management skills.
  • Working independently and within a team environment.
  • Following University of Montana policies and procedures.
  • Developing thorough knowledge regarding HRS/payroll processing and employee data.
  • Addressing ambiguous situations and information in a positive, open, and thoughtful way.
  • Maintaining a consistently professional, personable demeanor with the ability to establish and maintain productive working relationships with a wide variety of individuals.
  • Maintaining complete confidentiality with all issues discussed and managed in the HRS office.
  • Analyzing information and determining an appropriate course of action.
  • Learning, growing, and developing current and new work and technology knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Any combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities that equate to the level of a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or a closely related field.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with relational databases.

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 hrs/wk),

Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year,

Salary: $25.058/hr

Union Affiliation: None

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
