This position is posted as Financial Analyst, which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is Part-Time Temp Employee.

Job Description

The Cybersecurity Lab in NAU'S School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems is hiring for a dynamic part-time Financial Analyst. The Financial Analyst performs basic analysis projects to help guide the lab's financial planning, budgeting, and compliance activities. This position helps perform research to provide lab management with accurate and timely financial data and budget information and reviews data and transactions for anomalies.

This position will be in the Cybersecurity Lab. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing financial data and transactions for the sponsored projects and other projects in the lab and for preparing financial reports for our clients in accordance with NAU policies. The successful candidate will also be responsible for administrative duties in the Cybersecurity Lab.

Accounting/Finance - 75%
  • Gathers and interprets basic information related to financial data and transactions to be used for recommendations.
  • Writes basic reports and communications to provide information.
  • Understands and applies knowledge of appropriate handling of department budget information as well as financial policy.
  • Compiles data and prepares basic summaries to be used for forecasts and budgets.
  • Helps create forecasts and models of various future financial scenarios to be used to guide university planning decisions.

Project, Program, and Unit Support - 20%
  • Interpret and explain established NAU policy and procedure in response to inquiries from various sources.
  • Actively participate in achieving organizational priorities.
  • Contribute positively to unit.

Other - 5%
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • 1-2 years of accounting or finance experience.
  • *A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree.
  • Accounting or finance experience in higher education.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Baseline working knowledge of financial analysis tools, procedures, processes, policies, and concepts, such as financial controls, audits, and budget analysis projects as well as comparative financial statements, and trend analysis.
  • Knowledge of financial reporting in higher education.
  • Knowledge of university budgeting practices.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Skill in financial modeling.

  • Prepares detailed reports on a timely basis.
  • Balances competing priorities.
  • Demonstrates problem solving, organizational, and analytical capabilities.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Listens actively.
  • Promotes a diverse, inclusive environment.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint background check. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities. Anticpated hourly wage is between $22.81 to $28.52 per hour. Hourly wage commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

FLSA Status

This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.


This is a part-time, non-benefit eligible position.
