Position Summary:
The University of Idaho is seeking applicants for a tenure track, Assistant or Associate Professor to serve as an Area Extension Educator - Natural Resource and Range Economics. The Area Extension Educator will be responsible for developing, conducting and co-coordinating an extension program that addresses problems and issues important to Idaho and the West. The successful candidate will have interests and expertise in production and natural resource economics. The successful candidate will have experience or interest in issues related to the economics and management of natural resources and rangelands (public and private) including but not limited to wildlife management, threatened, and endangered species, invasive species, wildfire, and grazing. We expect this individual to develop a productive relationship with stakeholders and collaborate with UI research and extension faculty located throughout Idaho, including those affiliated with the UI Rangeland Center, as well as nationally. The Area Extension Educator will collect, analyze and prepare summary data for publication to revise existing AERS resources.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • An earned M.S. degree from an accredited institution in Agricultural Economics or related degree is required by date of hire.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of agriculture and natural resources, particularly as pertains to the Pacific Northwest.
  • Ability to design and conduct effective data collection methodologies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with a people of various social cultural, economic and educational backgrounds
  • Ability to work as a team player
  • Computer literacy and effective written and oral communication skills
  • Willing and able to travel and adjust to a flexible schedule including participating in evening and weekends.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to plan, deliver and evaluate extension or educational programming.
  • Potential for or record of publications in Extension outlets.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of western natural resource issues, particularly with respect to public and private rangelands.
  • Experience working with agricultural producers and agribusiness industries, through Extension or the private sector.
  • Experience in analyzing economic issues related to natural resources and range.
