Department: Communication / 0-1217-000

College: College of Arts & Sciences

Salary Plan: Permanent / Faculty

Hiring Salary: $55,000/year

Position Summary:

Located in Tampa and on the traditional Homelands and territories of the Seminole, the University of South Florida is a vibrant, urban research university.

The Department of Communication at the University of South Florida seeks to fill a 9-month, full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction of Communication position to begin August 7, 2023. This is a non-tenure track position. Salary is $55K and non-negotiable. Review of applications will begin after 1/09/2023.

We seek a Director of Public Speaking. This colleague will teach public speaking and related courses and supervise the activities of an Assistant Director. Public Speaking enrolls over 800 students per term in 30+ sections taught by faculty, graduate teaching associates, and adjunct faculty across three campuses. Duties include assisting with the maintenance of common course and general education curricula across three campuses, and with the coordination of instruction.  Applicants should be committed to excellence in teaching and prepared for a up to four-course teaching assignment each semester, with teaching load expected to be negotiated because of applicant’s role as Director of Public Speaking.

We encourage Black, Indigenous, Latina/o/x, people of color, those identifying as LGBTQIAAP+, those with disabilities, and other historically underrepresented candidates to apply.

Our faculty values and uses a range of humanistic, interpretive, critical, and social scientific modes to communication inquiry and seeks a colleague who appreciates our department’s methodological range. We are particularly interested in applicants who can highlight how their teaching and scholarship implicates issues of diversity, equity, accessibility, social justice, and/or public engagement.

Applicants should be able to teach undergraduate courses, in particular, public speaking in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formats.

The Department is committed to removing barriers that have been traditionally encountered by individuals from underrepresented groups; strives to recruit and retain faculty who will further enhance our diversity; and makes every attempt to support their academic, professional, and personal success while they are here. The University of South Florida recognizes that a diverse faculty benefits and enriches the educational experiences of the entire campus and greater community.

USF provides a promotional career path for individuals who hold full-time, non-tenure track teaching positions.
