The Department of Mathematics and Statistics in conjunction with the Institute of Environment at Florida International University is seeking applications for a full-time, tenure-track, open-rank faculty position in a new cross-disciplinary graduate program in Environmental Finance and Risk Management (EFRM) to begin in August 2023. The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at FIU is committed to an inclusive and diverse work environment and expects all applicants to be equally committed. The position will involve teaching and research focusing on mathematical modeling of the interaction of natural phenomena and modern financial systems. The vision for the EFRM is to create a first-of-its-kind program that combines mathematical finance and environmental sciences to devise new financial instruments to mitigate, adapt, and reduce environmental risk and incentivize sustainability. EFRM uses mathematics, probability, and statistics to connect how random and extreme events, in discrete and continuous time, are modeled and managed in the financial, insurance, and various scientific disciplines.

A Ph.D. in Financial Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Quantitative Finance, or a related field is required. Further qualifications include potential in research involving mathematical modeling of complex systems, a record of student supervision at the M.S. and Ph.D. levels, and a desire to engage in cross-disciplinary research.
