SUMMARY:

The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs is a full-time position responsible for providing leadership for student services in the School of Pharmacy at South University – Savannah and for ensuring the delivery of effective and quality support services to all Pharmacy students in order to optimize the students’ overall experience. In collaboration with the School of Pharmacy Persistence Committee, regularly assess at-risk students as well as design and implement academic performance plans to positively impact student retention in the program. This position will report to the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and coordinate goals with the University wide Dean of Student Affairs to assure that all policies and programs support the University and the School’s mission. The Assistant Dean of Student Affairs will serve on the School of Pharmacy’s Executive Committee and provide advice and counsel to the Dean and the Executive Committee Team members regarding overall student morale and needs. Incumbent must assure that the South University philosophy: quality services to clients; development, growth, involvement, sound economic principles; and a professional and collegial environment which is conducive to collaboration, innovation, positive thinking and expansion is integral to conduct associated with carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position.


KEY JOB ELEMENTS:

  • Serve as an advocate for the student and a central point of contact for student affairs.
  • Serve as the liaison between the student body and/or student organizations and the School’s faculty and staff.
  • Promote involvement in campus life and coordinate student activities to assure a dynamic student life program Offer training and support for faculty advisors of student organizations.
  • Ensure all student organizations and activities abide by University policies and procedures.
  • Assist in the planning and implementing of student activities and celebratory events, including the School Hooding, graduation and white coat ceremonies as well as new student open house and orientation events.
  • Assist with the identification of at-risk students, and collaborate with faculty and program leadership to develop academic performance plans.
  • Conduct evaluations of student services within the School of Pharmacy (at least annually) and utilize results for planning and assessment of student satisfaction, student engagement.
  • Collaborate with the campus Director of Career Services to provide comprehensive career development programming for Pharmacy students through the annual Career fair; assist with the collection of Pharmacy student job placement data
  • Serve as the South University Pharmacy Alumni Association liaison with the University Director of Career Services and Alumni Relations; organize Alumni events and outreach activities
  • Update Pharmacy Student Handbook annually coordinating with faculty and Executive Committee.
  • Collaborate with the Dean of the School of Pharmacy and Dean of Student Affairs for the campus to conduct thorough investigations and resolve incidents of student conduct, and student complaints Make timely referrals to on campus or off campus student resources
  • Serve as the School of Pharmacy Disability Services Coordinator and Designated School Official for International students
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Candidates with master’s degree considered, doctorate degree preferred. Degrees in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Student Personnel Administration or another related field is required.
  • Knowledge of current practices and theories in student affairs in higher education.
  • Experience serving students in a high-stakes, professional preparatory graduate studies program
  • At least five years of related experience working in a post-secondary institution
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills with student, faculty, and staff.
  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self-motivation skills.
  • Strong computer and analytical skills. MS Office Suite
  • Work effectively as either a leader or a team member to ensure that departmental goals are met
  • Ability to listen to clienteles (e.g. Students, staff, etc.) and to understand and respond positively to their requests.
  • Ability to prioritize work and perform well under pressure.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to comply with regulatory requirements with respect to student academic records and other documentation
