Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Assistant Director of Planned Gifts position. The Assistant Director of Planned Gifts is a full-time, year-round position starting at $61,545.00 - commensurate with experience. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The Assistant Director of Planned Gifts supports the Office of Advancement and Office of Planned Gifts efforts to solicit and administer life income gifts, deferred gifts, and gifts of unusual assets, from a diverse set of current and prospective donors.
The person in this role is expected to work as part of a collaborative and inclusive team including taking appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participating in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. In addition, all advancement staff members are required to support and staff key events such as Reunion, Homecoming, and Family Weekend. These events may require occasional evening and weekend hours.
Summary of Responsibilities
- Manage the content and production of all gift planning
marketing materials
- Oversee the content, including securing diverse donor profile
images and quotes, for the gift planning website produced by the
marketing supplier
- Assist the Director in the production of special targeted
solicitation and stewardship materials including greeting cards,
thank-you letters, broadcast emails, postcards and
letters
- Track the performance and response rate of marketing
campaigns
- Prepare timely and professional responses to requests for gift
planning information with meticulous, thoughtful, and appropriate
correspondence and maintain internal record-keeping as defined by
office protocols
- Generate professional planned gift proposals using PG Calc®
software program and other tools
- Develop comprehension in, or continued knowledge of, various
gift planning instruments, including staying informed about changes
in tax regulation, industry trends, and economic
indicators
- Work with the Director and other members of the Office to
identify major planned gift prospects and collaborate on diverse
and strategic cultivation strategies in partnership with Leadership
Gift Officers and track accordingly in the department
database
- Work with the Director and other members of the Office to
develop new stewardship strategies for a diverse set of existing
planned gift donors and track accordingly in the department CRM
database
- Assist in significantly expanding membership of the Johnson
Chapel Associates, Amherst's gift planning society, in coordination
with annual giving and leadership gifts teams
- Must be willing to work occasional weekends throughout the
year. (Reunion, various campus events)
- Develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of Amherst College,
its history, and diverse people, programs, and
initiatives
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate's degree, or 5+ years of experience in lieu of
degree
- Three years of related experience
- Familiarity with planned giving vehicles and planned giving
administration
- Demonstrated organizational and time management skills, as well
as the ability to multi-task and function with absolute
accuracy
- Sensitivity to issues of confidentiality
- High attention to detail
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal
skills
- Able to take initiative, and work independently and
collaboratively with diverse colleagues and constituents
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, experience with databases, and
ability to learn new programs
- Commitment to or experience working with diverse
communities

- Bachelor's degree
