Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the Leadership Gift Officer position. The Leadership Gift Officer is a full-time, year-round position, starting at $61,545 - commensurate with experience. Given Amherst's distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ways in which they bring value to and will work towards supporting a broadly diverse community.
The Gift Officer will manage a diverse portfolio of Amherst alumni prospects and donors, including newer graduates whose largest philanthropy is in the future and among whom we must build the habit of giving now. Specifically, they will develop and implement strategies to increase leadership Amherst Fund gifts from the College's youngest and highly diverse alumni. They will work with a portfolio of current and future prospects to build the leadership giving pipeline by engaging with those prospects and identifying opportunities to build community within the alumni body.
The Gift Officer will meet frequently to engage these key members of the Amherst community in conversations leading to increased expendable/Amherst Fund commitments and to six-figure gifts in support of Amherst's current campaign. In the case of alumni from more recent classes, the Development Officer will lay the foundation for future generosity to Amherst. Reporting to a Senior Development Officer, the Development Officer will be an integral member of the College's Leadership Giving team, which is composed of the Senior Director of Major & Planned Gifts, Gift Officers, Senior Major Gift Officers, Development Assistants, and Gift Planning colleagues.
The person in this role is expected to work as part of a collaborative and inclusive team including taking appropriate actions to support a diverse workforce and participating in the College's efforts to create a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. In addition, all advancement staff members are required to support and staff key events such as Reunion, Homecoming, and Family Weekend. These events may require occasional evening and weekend hours.
Summary of Responsibilities
Fundraising
- Manage a portfolio consisting of a diverse group of 100-150
prospective leadership donors, and future track donors
- Strategize with Advancement colleagues for the design and
implementation of cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship
strategies, including events
- Serves as a point of contact for targeted fundraising
initiatives and efforts across college divisions, departments
and/or affinity/interest groups
- As appropriate, travel to engage diverse members of the Amherst
community
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's Degree
- 3 years of experience working in a fundraising environment, or
applicable and relevant experience in a related field
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate and advance relationships
strategically and proactively
- An unassailable sense of judgment and integrity
- Personal capacity to thrive in a fast-paced
environment
- Able to travel 50% of the time to different areas of the
country
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal
communication skills
- Commitment to working with a diverse community
