Associate Director - Faculty-Led Programs

About the Opportunity

The Associate Director - Faculty-Led Programs, under the supervision of the Director of Faculty-Led Programs, is responsible for the day-to-day oversight of faculty-led study abroad programs, including Dialogues of Civilization and course-embedded programs. The Associate Director maintains expertise in faculty-led program design and implementation, resource stewardship, internal database systems, and promotion of faculty-led study abroad opportunities.

The Associate Director holds operational responsibility and supervision of professional staff in the design and execution of faculty-led programs, including faculty training, site evaluation and coordination, and adhering to best practices in program review, development, and expansion. The Associate Director must be able to initiate, develop, and sustain positive relationships with faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. The Associate Director supports the Director of Faculty-Led Programs with special projects on an ad-hoc basis.

This position may be required to travel to conduct periodic site visits and to attend, facilitate, and/or present at meetings or conferences domestically and internationally. Some evening and weekend hours to lead events will be required to accommodate Northeastern students and faculty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Demonstrated knowledge in advising techniques for study abroad programs in a higher education setting. Demonstrated commitment to international education and the promotion of cross-cultural understanding. Understanding of the Forum on Education Abroad's standards and ethics.Familiarity with international political, social, and cultural issues as they pertain to education abroad, international travel, and international service. Strong oral and written communication to positively engage people from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, administer affirmative action policies effectively, and supervise in a culturally diverse workforce. Fully effective time management and prioritization skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and responsibilities at once in a fast-paced environment. Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to strategize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines. Ability to interact with global program representatives, faculty, and students in a highly professional manner with an understanding of protocol and confidentiality. Must effectively represent the University to outside institutions and universities. Fully effective organizational, project management, administrative, and computer skills. Proven supervisory skills and the ability to lead with positivity in a solutions-oriented environment. Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree required (Master's degree preferred) with previous experience studying abroad at the undergraduate level or time living abroad. Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office software required. Familiarity with Salesforce, Terra Dotta, and student record systems (e.g., Banner) preferred.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

1) Staff Supervision:

Mentor and supervise a team of Assistant Directors and/or Advisors; create performance goals and professional development learning outcomes; conduct yearly performance evaluations of supervised staff; actively participate in and lead projects related to staff development, training, and mentorship.

2) Leadership:

Promote a collaborative work environment, building and fostering an internal culture of positive collegiality; build strong relationships and conduct regular meetings with internal stakeholders to increase capacity and efficacy; assist the Director of Faculty-Led Programs in developing strategy and enrollment targets; review policies impacting students on GEO programming including admissions, financial, and withdrawal policies.

3) Faculty-Led Program Development

Provide end-to-end support for an assigned portfolio of faculty in the proposal, design, and implementation stages; Communicate professionally and effectively with internal stakeholders, external partners, and with cross-functional teams to arrive at mutually agreeable and productive solutions; Assist faculty in creating effective marketing and recruitment strategies; Maintain accountability for budgeting with the Finance & Operations team.

4) Student Advising: Maintain expertise in an assigned portfolio of programs; mentor students in goal-setting, selecting programs, identifying sources of funding, building cross-cultural awareness, and mitigation of risks; maintain general knowledge of Financial Aid policies and processes; provide general advice on student visa application process; maintain on-going communication with students to ensure all material is complete; assist with GSSAC petitions.

5) Administrative Duties

Participate in GEO and university projects as necessary, lead GEO projects as assigned; provide on-campus customer service representation on a rotating basis; oversight of other initiatives as assigned by the Director of Faculty-Led Programs. Serve in the on-call emergency response system. Other duties as assigned.
