Description
The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor's College of Visual and Performing Arts seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor of Music Education for its Music Department, beginning in late July of 2023, with initial appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with experience. UMHB seeks faculty who are active Christians and dedicated teacher-scholars to prepare students for leadership, service, and faith-informed discernment in a global society.
The Music Department offers the following degree programs:
- Bachelor of Music in Church Music
- Bachelor of Music in Music Education (choral or
instrumental)
- Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance
- Bachelor of Arts in Music
- Bachelor of Science in Music, with an emphasis in Music
Business
- Bachelor of Science in Music, with an emphasis in Music
Business, Worship Technology Track
- Minor in Church Music
- Minor in Music
UMHB is conveniently located in Belton, an historic town of 22,000 in the heart of central Texas. Nearby cities are Temple (7 miles), Waco (42 miles), Austin (60 miles), San Antonio (130 miles) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (130 miles). Excellent schools, abundant cultural and recreational opportunities, and a high quality of life are hallmarks of the local community.
Faculty Responsibilities:
Activities required of all faculty include exemplary teaching, curriculum development, student recruitment and advising, professional attainment, and service to department, college, university, and the community.
Specific Responsibilities:
Teaching assignment may include: Introduction to Music Education, Elementary Methods, Secondary Methods (choral or instrumental) and additional undergraduate teaching assignments according to candidate strengths and departmental needs. Serve as program coordinator of Music Education and as academic advisor to music education majors. Assist the College of Education with student teacher placements in local ISD's and field supervision of music student teachers. Develop and maintain positive relationships with area music educators and school districts. Assists the dean with assessing and revising a music education curriculum.
Qualifications: - A Doctorate in Music Education or a closely related field is
required; ABD will be considered (tenure-track status requires
terminal degree in hand).
- A minimum of three (3) years of EC-12 school teaching
experience is required.
- Must possess a current and valid teacher
certification.
- Excellent teaching and communication skills, a dedication to
professional attainment, and commitment to quality improvement are
essential.
- Certification in Kodaly, Dalcroze, Orff and/or Music Learning
Theory methodology is preferred.
- Must be an active, committed Christian.
