Job Summary
The Institutional Research Analyst has primary responsibility for gathering, assembling, analyzing, and communicating information from a variety of internal and external sources to all campus constituents and to a range of regulatory agencies and other consumers of University data.
The Analyst is the primary data resource for the University’s academic, co-curricular, and administrative program review and assessment efforts, and plays a leading role in educating the campus on best practices for using data to support these endeavors. As part of a fully integrated institutional research and information technology office, the Analyst collaborates with other Information Services colleagues to establish a robust flow of data-based campus information that makes full use of available technological tools.

Essential Functions
- Prepares and updates reports, dashboards, fact books, and other presentations of general institutional data for broad use by all campus constituents, online and in print.
- Assembles, analyzes, and presents specific data to support academic and administrative planning, operations, decision making, and communication.
- Manages, verifies, and presents data to support academic, co-curricular, and administrative program review and assessment efforts, including periodic assessment reports.
- Collaborates with the Vice President for Operations and Technology to prepare and present data for use by the Board of Trustees, President and senior staff.
- Coordinates data support for institutional and departmental accreditation and other regulatory needs.
- Coordinates and completes the University’s IPEDS and State of Illinois data reporting, with support from other University offices.
- Coordinates and completes the University’s data reporting to US News and other organizations using information that impacts the University’s image and reputation.
- Coordinates and completes campus surveys generated externally such as NSSE, including analysis and interpretation of the results.
- Coordinates and completes internally generated institutional research studies on topics such as student enrollment patterns, student persistence and graduation, student engagement in co-curricular activities, faculty work load, alumni employment patterns, and others as requested by senior administrative staff, including analysis and interpretation of the results.
- Manages and archives historical institutional data.
- Manages and responds to particular data requests that arise from various campus constituents.
- Educates campus leaders on good practice for the use of data.
- Participates actively in new data-oriented initiatives of the office.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
- Supports mission, vision and values.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a field emphasizing quantitative analysis and research methods.
- Experience with contemporary statistical and other software tools for data management, analysis, and reporting.
- A collaborative attitude – openness to working regularly with people at many organizational levels and from many offices.
- Excellent communication (written and verbal) and organizational skills with proven attention to detail.
- Methodical problem-solving skills.
- A willingness to continually grow and learn professionally from many sources.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Four years’ experience in institutional research, including direct experience in institutional research support for higher education assessment and program review.
- Experience with MS- SQL or Unidata databases.
- Previous experience working in higher education.
