Williams College seeks a new team member! The Assistant Director of STEM and Health Careers

works directly with individual students and with groups providing best practice advising and programming related to careers in STEM and Health. The role supports the exploration of careers in science and health through internships, fellowships, jobs, and other experiential opportunities.

The growing STEM and Health career community at Williams is situated within the ‘68 Center for Career Exploration. Providing services and programs that are accessible and inclusive is central to our mission, vision, and core model. As an advisor in our team, you will play a critical role in infusing and fostering DEIA standards throughout our career education program and empowering our students in their search for meaningful work.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary career advisor for undergraduate students and alumni interested in STEM & Health fields; provide one-on-one advising appointments and group advising sessions, both in-person and virtually
  • Assist as a generalist advisor for all students, especially those “still deciding” on their internship and post-graduate career choices
  • Customize advising to the unique backgrounds and identities of Williams students,
  • Guide students in leveraging ‘68 Center resources including Handshake, EphLink, and other support tools in their career exploration processes
  • Present career educational programs on a variety of topics and collaborate with staff to create, customize, and execute networking events and panels
  • Cultivate opportunities for students, such as internships, projects, and experiential learning, in close collaboration with the Operations & External Relations team
  • Assist with a communication strategy that effectively publicizes Career Center programs, services, and resources that will attract constituents
  • Creatively collaborate with other Career Community advisors, student workers and Director of Health Professions Advising, playing a strong team role throughout ‘68 Center career education programs
The Assistant Director of STEM and Health Careers provides direct student service and will build a robust career community to meet students’ career exploration and preparation needs. The role will have the full support of the advising team, the ‘68 Center (department) and the Office of College Relations (division).

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree plus at least 2 years relevant experience or equivalent required, master's degree preferred
  • Advising, counseling, or coaching skills required, in order to work with college age students varying in motivation, preparation, and experience
  • Creative problem-solving skills and growth mindset
  • Excellent writing, time-management, outreach, organizational, and public-speaking skills to connect with students, alumni, faculty, cross-campus colleagues, and employers in a relational manner; able to build trust and facilitate learning and collaboration
  • Enthusiasm for interacting with students and alumni from a wide range of backgrounds
  • Knowledge of the ever-evolving job market and job and internship processes
  • Strong proficiency in analytical, computer and Internet skills
Pay range is from $55,000 to $65,000, commensurate with experience. Remote work arrangements may be available up to 2 days per week with approval for employees based in NY, MA, CT, or VT; subject to review and revision as policy evolves.
