Assistant Director of the Skidmore Fund

The Assistant Director, Skidmore Fund, develops and promotes a culture of lifelong giving to Skidmore. They manage annual fund strategies and results (dollars and donors) in individual classes including our Scribner Society. The Assistant Director supports several programmatic initiatives, including the Loyalty Circle, which recognizes consecutive donors, in addition to recurring giving, multi-year pledge programs, and participation-focused stewardship. These initiatives support donor retention, a critical factor in alumni participation. Programmatic responsibilities require skill and expertise working with data, ability to create and execute an overall plan, conceive of and create interesting and engaging outreach, and work with on-campus partners and volunteer leaders. The Assistant Director also manages a pool of prospective and current Skidmore Fund donors and volunteers and takes on additional duties as identified by the Senior Director.

Primary Job Duties:

  1. Overall responsibilities include developing and implementing the annual strategic plan for assigned programs, setting and meeting of key goals and metrics, as well as writing and producing requisite print, electronic, and social media materials.
  2. Class Management: Responsibility for supporting annual fundraising in assigned classes including heightened focus on classes celebrating Reunion with a focus on the Scribner Society.
  3. Program Management: Develops and oversees Skidmore’s Loyalty Circle, the College’s giving society that recognizes consistent support, including working with the volunteer chairs, creating communications and stewardship opportunities that engage and meaningfully recognize support, tracking of results, and looking for creative ways to increase membership. In addition, the Assistant Director manages, the monthly recurring giving effort, multi-year Skidmore Fund pledges, anniversary outreach, and participation-level stewardship. This work includes collaboration with Skidmore Fund colleagues, as well as Advancement Operations, Marketing & Communications and Major Gifts Officers, as well as other campus partners and alumni volunteers. It requires complex data analysis before, during and after the fundraising efforts.
  4. Prospect and Volunteer Management: Responsible for developing philanthropic relationships with an assigned group of alumni and volunteers (75+); identifying capacity, interests, and inclination, educating and cultivating these individuals and soliciting gifts; stewarding donors and volunteers appropriately.
  5. The Assistant Director takes on additional duties as identified by the Senior Director.


Education : Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience : 1 – 3 years of increasing, directly-related or applicable experience, including fundraising within a higher ed or non-profit setting. Recruiting, developing and motivating volunteers. Willingness to personally develop philanthropic relationships with prospective donors and volunteers.

Pay Range: Commensurate with experience
