Job Description

The Department of Special Education invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship position. The Postdoctoral Fellow will work with Dr. Delinda van Garderen and others as a part of a research group (see https://scienceandliteracy.missouri.edu/ ) and other research opportunities as they arise. This position is a part of the MU Research Excellence Program: https://gradschool.missouri.edu/postdoctoral-education/mu-researchexcellence-program-rep .

Research Expectations for Position:
  • Participation in established research program focused teacher professional development in mathematics and/or science
  • Opportunity to pursue their own scholarly work in research and dissemination as well as submission of an early career award grant
  • Participation in professional development including grant writing training, personalized guidance in finding funding, and support in the process of submitting an early career award
  • Participation in mentoring opportunities
Candidates Will Be Evaluated On:
  • Experience or capability writing for publication
  • Experience or capability in grant writing
  • Experience or capability in science and/or mathematics education for students with special needs
Appointment : 12 months beginning Fall 2023 with opportunity for renewing for 2 years total

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
• An earned doctorate in Special Education or related field at the time of appointment
• Experience in K-12 special education or in special education teacher education

About the Department of Special Education
The Department of Special Education (SPED) is one of six academic units within the MU College of Education and Human Development. SPED offers programs for students seeking undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees. SPED faculty members are consistently recognized – internationally and across the U.S. – for their
individual and collaborative research excellence. SPED is home to several state and federally supported training, demonstration, and research projects. The department has the highest per faculty member external funding average in the college.

About the College: The College of Education & Human Development is ranked among the top doctoral granting colleges of education in the country. Today, the College has a student population of approximately 1000 undergraduates and 1,600 graduate students, and over 100 faculty. The College is financially well positioned to invest in innovation. Annual expenditures for externally funded projects are approximately $20 million with funded projects in research, instruction and public service. Our research portfolio has increased significantly in recent years, and is poised for continued significant strategic growth. The College is a leader on the campus and is nationally recognized for its distance and online education programs.
