Instructor of African American Studies
About this Opportunity
The African American Studies program seeks a one-course adjunct position for the spring 2023 semester in order to teach AFAM 400 – African-American Studies Capstone. The course is offered January 9, 2023 and through Friday, May 5, 2023.
This hiring pool will be used through December 5, 2023 (one full year) to hire additional adjunct positions to teach AFAM 400 in future semesters.

Minimum Qualifications
M.A., professional experience in a field relevant to African American Studies.
Authorization to work in the US

Through the African-American Studies minor, students gain a better understanding of our nation as a whole and African-Americans’ contribution to it. Students explore how race, power, and resistance have shaped American society more broadly. They also gain a meaningful and informed sense of events like Ferguson and Charlottesville, which swirl around our national consciousness and shape our politics and culture every day. In that sense, being an African-American Studies minor can make students more informed citizens. This minor can also make students more marketable potential employees after college.
At its roots, African-American Studies instills students with:
- critical thinking skills
- intellectual dexterity
- cultural competencies that will be valuable later in life
- historical and modern contributions of African Americans to American life, culture, and politics
