Job Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Institutional Research, the Director of Analytics is responsible for supervision of a team of analysts, high-level management and data support for district-wide projects, development, and design of systems for reporting data, and operationalizing standard metrics and benchmarking for reporting. The job requires strong managerial skills in addition to mastery of data coding structures and systems development for analytics and visualizations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements
  • Supervises analysts/programmers and ensures reports are standardized for ease of accessibility and instantly available for decision makers
  • Directs and evaluates incoming reporting projects, discerns time allotment, proposes solutions for potential challenges, and leads the creation and maintenance of systems for reporting and benchmarking
  • Builds systems including dashboards and self-service reports for summarizing data in a clear and concise manner for multiple audiences including the creation of clear and effective data visualizations (e.g., Power BI, Tableau)
  • Works directly with Institutional Research leadership on wide range of services/support efforts including special projects for the Cabinet
  • Collaborates with District staff to determine how to efficiently report on commonly used metrics
  • Coordinates efforts to operationalize the design and execution of quantitative, qualitative, and survey research projects, providing input on design, development, and implementation
  • Works with large complex data sets, including exporting/importing from various sources, merging, and cleaning data files, maintaining historical records, and inferring data relationships
  • Maintains security of confidential student and employee information
  • Troubleshoots all automation of reporting for accuracy and completeness
  • Stays current on national and regional trends that affect higher education and is forward-thinking regarding the use of technology to enhance reporting
  • Serves as a resource on District committees and provides Institutional Research’s technical support to users
General Supervision and Management
  • Provides leadership for a team of analysts/programmers
  • Providing direction, on-going monitoring, and support on all major projects
Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College ( TCC ) Institute

Supervision
Works under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Institutional Research

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Five (5) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
  • Three (3) years’ experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others; leading projects or processes)
Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master’s or doctorate degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a related field
  • Experience using Ellucian, Colleague, or Anthology ERS systems
  • Experience with Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board state reporting and IPEDS federal reporting
  • Experience with accreditation processes and the assessment of higher education programs
  • Experience providing data support for grants development
  • Experience editing and proofreading, and the production of high-quality materials, while adhering to multiple deadlines
  • Experience managing projects
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of mathematical/computer science concepts
  • Ability to use programming languages (e.g., SQL, R, Python) to write syntax for application within Institutional Research including running simulations and statistical modeling for predictive analytics
  • Skilled in detail-oriented work, organization, and resourcefulness with the ability to complete projects with rapidly changing priorities and short timelines
  • Skilled with statistical techniques, statistical software, and programming languages
  • Skilled using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Skilled in verbal and written communication at the excellent level
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal skills with diverse populations
  • Ability to make a professional commitment of continuing education and participation in professional conferences and workshops
  • Ability to retrieve and manipulate data from an ERP
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment and a setting that is diverse
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
