  • The location of this position will be within the home of the staff member needing services.


Job Description

This position provides revoicing support to an IHD employee for approximately 5-10 hours/week. A revoicer provides communication assistance - is the speaking voice - for a person who communicates by using a pointer attached to a helmet, which they use to tap either a computer screen or letters/words on a board. The revoicer will speak the words/sentences, confirming the sentences are correct, and relaying the message to listeners.

The majority of this work will be conducted at the home of the employee needing this service (with a personal caregiver also present), although work may sometimes be completed on the Flagstaff Mountain NAU campus.

Revoicing - 90%
  • Provide revoicing services for the employee in academic settings such as:
  • classroom lectures and discussions (students will be present), and/or
  • one-on-one and small group meetings with students.
  • Provide revoicing services for the employee during work-related meetings or events.
  • Read work related written materials to the employee.

  • Administrative - 5%
    • Document the employee's feedback to students or respond to emails.
    • General administrative duties such as completing paperwork, and assisting with communication.

    Other - 5%
    • Other duties as assigned.
    • Attend trainings as needed.


    Minimum Qualifications

    • Ability to effectively communicate the English language verbally and in writing.
    • Strong customer service skills.
    • Interest in education and working with people who have a disability.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working with online learning management systems, such as Blackboard.


    Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    Knowledge
    • Introductory knowledge of the field of disabilities.
    • Understanding of the classroom setting and environment in higher education.

    Skills
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Proficiency with online video-conferencing platforms such as Zoom and Teams.

    • Ability to work independently and with indirect supervision.

    Background Information

    This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. If you are applying for a job that requires a CDL, you will be required to register with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse and adhere to the clearinghouse requirements. Additionally, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists employers with verifying new employees' right to work in the United States. Finally, each year Northern Arizona University releases an Annual Security Report. The report is a result of a federal law known as the Clery Act. The report includes Clery reportable crime statistics for the three most recent completed calendar years and discloses procedures, practices and programs NAU uses to keep students and employees safe including how to report crimes or other emergencies occurring on campus. In addition, the Fire Safety Report is combined with the Annual Security Report for the NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus as this campus has on-campus student housing. This report discloses fire safety policies and procedures related to on-campus student housing and statistics for fires that occurred in those facilities.     Salary

    Anticipated salary range is $18 - $20 an hour. Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.

    FLSA Status

    This position is non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The incumbent is eligible for overtime pay or compensatory time according to University policy. Further, the employee must submit timesheets that accurately reflect all hours worked.
