Job Summary

The Parking Services (PS) Department at the University of Colorado-Boulder encourages applicants for the Parking Field Technician position! This position ensures the operational readiness of parking facilities across campus by performing routine and scheduled maintenance. Ideal candidates will have a background in maintenance work, and an interest in learning and being trained on new equipment. Parking Services provides ongoing training and resources for employees to develop their skills and abilities. This is a full-time position that is immediately eligible for excellent CU benefits.

Who We Are

Parking Services is responsible for the construction, maintenance, enforcement, and permit sales for most of the university's existing and new parking facilities. We offer a variety of permit options to meet campus parking needs. In addition, Parking Services provides staffing and parking plans for thousands of annual campus events. We diligently strive to reduce and mitigate the impact of large campus events on daily university operations for permit holders and event guests.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Facility Operations:
  • Use various powered and non-powered hand tools, as well as other equipment, to perform routine, preventive and general maintenance on parking lots, parking lot signs, parking structures and other parking areas.
  • Operate vehicles including sweepers, crack seal machines, and striping machines. Training will be provided to learn the correct operation of specialized vehicles.
  • Maintain medians, flow lines, and all asphalt surfaces in parking lots. Paint lots as needed.
  • Perform installation of regulatory and advisory signing and bumper blocks.
  • Organize and deliver materials to work sites.
  • Maintain daily records on work performed and turn in work and repair records to supervisor daily.
  • Maintain communication by radio and/or cell phone during assigned shift.
Cleaning:
  • Perform hands on cleaning and operate power-sweeping equipment, gas powered power washer, back pack blowers and vacuums to clean parking garage floors, and lot surfaces.
  • Wipe down hand rails, sweep stairwells, clean glass windows, glass doors, wipe down elevator controls, sweep and mop elevator floors, sanitize and shine inside of elevator cabs.
  • Perform general janitorial tasks in keeping the parking facilities clean and safe, including emptying trash and recycle containers, washing and sanitize containers on a regular basis.
  • Facilitate the proper disposal of hazardous materials that may be found in parking structures. Training will be provided on proper techniques to deal with hazardous materials.
  • Perform safety checks on all structure doors, elevators and accessible door paddles. Report and remove graffiti from structures and or parking equipment.
Inventory:
  • Take receipt of materials for immediate use and/or placement in inventory in accord with inventory storage policies and procedures.
  • Recommend purchase of tools, replacement parts, and repair manuals.
  • Coordinate student employees to assist in the receipt and proper storage of materials and equipment.
Snow Removal:
  • Perform snow removal for parking areas using hand shovels, snow blowers, and ice abatement materials and equipment.
  • Maintain access to ADA spaces, sidewalks and parking lots as necessary and as directed by Field Supervisor and/or Assistant Director of Infrastructure and Capital Projects.
What You Should Know
  • This is a fully in-person position.
  • The typical schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 6am-2:30pm.
  • This position works outdoors and is an Essential Services position.
  • Candidates must successfully pass a pre-placement physical.
  • All University of Colorado Boulder employees are required to comply with the campus COVID-19 vaccine requirement. New employees must provide proof of vaccination or receive a medical or religious exemption within 30 days of employment.
What We Can Offer
  • The salary range for this position is $40,000 to $41,000 annually.

What We Require
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer and smart phone skills.
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
What You Will Need
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Team player and willingness to learn.
What We Would Like You To Have
  • Two years of experience in duties related to the position.
  • Appropriate education or successful completion of a formalized apprenticeship program or position related vocational course work can substitute for the required experience on a year for year basis.
