    PRINCIPLE PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

    Teaches in the discipline in which s(he) has specific training and competence. Carries out duties and responsibilities designed to contribute to achieving the established outcomes for the undergraduate programs.

    SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    Responsibilities include didactic and/or clinical instruction within content areas of expertise, participation in curriculum development, facilitating the procurement of clinical sites for clinical experiences, and advising students. The successful candidate is also expected to participate in scholarship and service activities that are proportionate to their employment status. The faculty is accountable to the Director of Undergraduate Programs for carrying out the duties and responsibilities designed to contribute to the achievement of the established objectives of the University and SON.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes, using each course’s standard course outline as a guide. The basic instructional assignment for full-time faculty is twenty-four (24) load hours per academic year for 9-month faculty. On occasion, faculty may receive a reduced instructional load to complete other duties related to the function of the school. Each semester’s instructional load will be assigned by the faculty member’s supervisor, and the nature of the position will determine, the needs of the SONHS, and workload guidelines established by university policy.
  • Facilitates in and contributes to the development of course curriculum, syllabus, course handouts, lectures, labs, and presentations.
  • Develops syllabi, course handouts, lectures, labs, and presentations.
  • Submits digital copies of syllabi and course handouts to the Director of Undergraduate Programs each semester.
  • Teaches courses according to University catalog descriptions and in accordance with defined course standards and outcomes.
  • Documents students’ attendance, participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes, and/or examinations that lead to a final grade.
  • Assigns and posts grades according to University guidelines.
  • Maintains course/student records in accordance with FERPA regulations and submits grades and records by established deadlines.
  • Schedules, supervises, debriefs, and evaluates students in clinical, internship, observation, field experience, and similar settings as appropriate for the course or program.
  • Meets all classes and other scheduled responsibilities such as office hours and meetings at the designated times.
  • Posts and keeps on-campus hours to facilitate interaction with students, other faculty, staff, administrators, and the public.
  • Participates in program-level learning assessment. Participation includes helping articulate learning outcomes, evaluating student performance, and suggesting changes to improve student learning.
  • Contributes to developing and monitoring SONHS long-range and annual plans.
  • Cooperates with other faculty in carrying out activities designed to enhance the quality of the instruction, scholarship, and public service programs of the SONHS / University.
  • Participates in the development and implementation of academic policies, guiding principles, objectives,s, and functions in accordance with the philosophy of the school.
  • Participates in summative and formative faculty evaluation processes.
  • Remains current in academic or program discipline, including maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate.
  • Receives training or stays current in technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning.
  • Participates in university professional development activities.
  • Serves on standing ad hoc committees, advisory boards, hiring committees, faculty, and senate, or as a student organization advisor.
  • Attends local, regional, state, or national meetings where required or necessary for the discipline.
  • Mentors and assists in orientating new faculty, formally or informally where appropriate or required by the department or division.
  • Attends commencement or other ceremonies appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline or program.
  • Attends divisional and college-wide meetings where appropriate or as required by supervisor.
  • Is familiar with and maintains behavior and actions consistent with University and SONHS policies.
  • Assures that student evaluation are administered near the end of each semester.
OTHER DUTIES: Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Master’s Degree in Nursing is required; Terminal Degree is preferred.
  • Experience in undergraduate education preferred; skill in online education a plus.
LICENSING AND CERTIFICATIONS:
  • Candidates must be eligible for or currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky. Selected candidates must complete the State of Kentucky Registered Nurse licensure process prior to appointment.
  • BLS and/or other resuscitation training as required by clinical affiliates.

  • Experience in nursing education.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position will not have supervisory responsibility.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort is required.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
