Definition of Class

This position provides oversight and coordinates activities for at home athletic events for assigned University sports. The incumbent plans, organizes, and coordinates support groups within the Athletic Department, the University, and external groups.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Assists in managing departmental budgets for event management activities and coordinates resources and services.
  • Designs, establishes, and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively accomplish the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Recruits, employs, trains, supervises, conducts performance evaluations of staff, and participates in employee problem resolution.
  • Participates in long-range planning meetings with regard to upcoming events and provides direction for these activities.
  • Prepares and maintains administrative documentation with respect to events in sports facilities, to include preparation of post-game reports.
  • Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
  • Monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness required for improvement.
  • Develops and manages annual budgets for event management and conducts cost and productivity analysis.
  • Coordinates and makes recommendations in the bidding processes and contractual services for athletic facility upgrades and maintenance needs.
  • Coordinates and prepares for special athletic events hosted by the athletic department, to include conferences championships, NCAA and SEC events, NIT events, and home events.
  • Prepares and distributes event/tournament manuals to participants and relevant event management staff.
  • Acts as the University’s liaison with UM coaches, visiting coaches, officials, NCAA and SEC Conference office to assess and meet home event needs.
  • Provides oversight necessary to monitor compliance with all NCAA, SEC Conference, and Athletic Department policies and regulations associated with hosting a home athletic event.
  • Ensures effective adherence to the applicable national, state, university crowd control/safety/access codes and policies.
  • Assists the designated Tournament Director for athletic events hosted by the University’s Athletic Department.
  • Performs similar or related duties as assigned or required.
  • Ensures all assigned tasks are in compliance with department, University, Southeastern Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations.
Essential Functions

  2. Assists in short-term and long-range planning.
  3. Develops and manages annual budgets for event management and conducts cost and productivity analysis.
  4. Develops and implements policies, organizational goals, objectives, and operating procedures.


Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

AND

Experience: Three (3) years of experience related to the above described duties.

Substitution Statement:

Related experience may be substituted for education, on a basis set forth and approved by the Department of Human Resources.
