Job Description:

The Assistant Director of Alumni Belonging works closely with the Senior Director, Alumni Belonging to design and implement various programs and initiatives that foster a culture of inclusion and belonging within the Brown Alumni Community.

The Assistant Director will serve as an innovation engine for the department, sourcing and developing new and innovative engagement ideas from Brown alumni and other community members that foster greater inclusion and belonging. They will help guide the early stages of new alumni community development. The Assistant Director will also develop capacity-building and training initiatives for alumni, volunteers, volunteer leaders, and staff; help identify and recruit new alumni volunteers. The Assistant Director will develop young alumni engagement strategies with a focus on engaging young alumni from historically underrepresented groups. This position has a vital leadership role within Alumni Relations, helping identify and operationalize new ways to center and celebrate belonging, and enhance alumni connection around identity, affinity, shared interest and lived experience.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a related field such as development, customer relations, alumni programming, advising, event planning, and/or support

Required Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience and success in strategy development, project coordination, and event planning

  • Ability to design and implement strategic plans

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple projects and priorities to meet aggressive timelines and challenging deadlines

  • Working knowledge of the Windows environment, including: Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, electronic mail and calendars

Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct experience with volunteer or constituent management

  • Community building experience valued.

  • Experience in higher education or non-profit setting

  • Knowledge of Brown University values
