POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for performing troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of campus mechanical systems and components.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Performs troubleshooting and maintenance of building mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection) across campus
  • Installs, troubleshoots, maintains, repairs, and rebuilds building mechanical system components such as fans, pumps, heat exchangers, valves, dampers, plumbing fixtures, etc.
  • Installs and maintains campus/building piping systems
  • Maintains fire protection systems and components
  • Performs mechanical repairs on tools, equipment, and appliances
  • Coordinates mechanical system work with outside contractors for projects or large scopes of work
  • Other duties as assigned

Education:
  • Minimum of High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) is required.
  • Vocational training and/or a degree in HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical technology is preferred.

Experience:
  • Working knowledge of residential and commercial mechanical and plumbing systems is desirable.
  • Three years related experience in installation and maintenance of residential and commercial mechanical/plumbing systems and equipment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with safe work practices such as LOTO programs, fall prevention, hot work, etc. required.
Computer Skills:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, G-Mail, Google, Outlook.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Ability to learn and effectively use ADP time keeping system.

Certificates & Licenses:
  • Valid US driver's license required.
  • Other current, valid, and applicable certifications such as plumber's license, controlled refrigerant certification, etc. will be preferred
Communication/Language: Intermediate: Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Other Requirements:
  • Familiarity with plumbing, NFPA, and ASHRAE codes.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, shop drawings, and as-built drawings.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively within leadership, technician, and client audiences.
  • Ability to produce a quality work product in a prompt, safe and efficient manner.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to problem solve.
  • Ability to work without supervision and shift work priorities; deal appropriately with multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain regular and reliable attendance.
  • Willingness to seek out and work with peers to determine and apply best practices.
  • Demonstrated capability to handle competing priorities in a complex environment and communicate progress against project requirements.
  • Must be willing to work as a team member in a broader institutional setting to achieve divisional goals and objectives.
  • Possesses a commitment to the values associated with a nationally respected, liberal arts educational environment.
  • Attend training sessions and/or seminars to maintain or enhance skills that may be required for the successful operation of Facilities Management.
