Duties and Responsibilities
The School of Communication ( SOC ) at Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ) announces a tenure track position at the assistant professor rank specializing in Communication Studies. This position currently includes two majors—Communication Studies and Advocacy & Social Change—which offer courses in Hip Hop Culture; Rhetoric; Media, Politics & Propaganda; Environmental Advocacy; Remix Culture, Game Studies and Digital Media Ethics. The Communication Studies faculty share interests in data justice, digital sustainability, intercultural organizing, debate and rhetorical criticism, environmental engagement, cybercultural studies, documentary outreach and more.
Applicants should have significant training and demonstrated expertise in one or more of these areas: designing media for social change; political, health or environmental communication; digital rights and literacy; rhetorical criticism; public health advocacy; persuasion; conflict management; critical/qualitative approaches to the study of culture, society and technology discourse; digital ethics and data justice.
The School of Communication serves close to a thousand graduate and undergraduate students, offers a Center for Digital Ethics and Policy with annual symposia, a popular radio station and a state-of-the-art convergence studio. Our international faculty are distinguished by a mix of professional and academic achievement in the areas of journalism, advertising, public relations, film and digital media, game studies, advocacy and communication studies . LUC has ranked in the Sierra Club’s top five “Green Schools” and Princeton Review’s top 50 Green Colleges over the last two decades. The SOC is located in a new facility in the heart of Chicago, a block from the historic Water Tower and the Magnificent Mile, and walking distance from world-class museums and beautiful Lake Michigan.

A Ph.D. or ABD status are required and candidates should demonstrate the potential to be an outstanding teacher and productive scholar or content creator.
