The Nido R. Qubein School of Communication at High Point University is seeking applicants to teach in its Media Production program beginning in August 2023.

The successful candidate will teach a variety of media production courses, from introductory through advanced, covering all phases of production.  This will include writing-focused courses such as our introductory Writing for Media Production course and an advanced Writing for the Screen course.  While general media production skills are an essential requirement of the position, preference will be given to candidates with the qualifications and experience to teach these writing courses.

This position is open to candidates of all ranks.  Though non-tenure track, the colleague hired will be eligible for promotion and a multi-year, renewable contract. The colleague will be expected to maintain an active research, creative, or professional development trajectory, and will be provided with funding to do so.  The regular teaching load for Assistant, Associate, and Full Professors at HPU is three 4-credit-hour courses per semester on a 9-month contract, with a potential opportunity for summer teaching.  Instructors teach a 4-4 load.  Professors-of-the-practice, who must have at least 15 years of progressively responsible communication experience, carry a 3-3 load and additional administrative responsibilities.  Faculty responsibilities at HPU also include service to the department, school, university, and community.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field required. Terminal degree (MFA or PhD) preferred. ABD candidates will be considered.
  • Demonstrable ability to teach introductory through advanced courses in media production.
  • A commitment to quality teaching, professional growth, and university service.
  • Ability to work well with colleagues in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and other Creative Cloud media production software.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University-level teaching experience and student-centered learning approach.
  • Experience and ability to teach introductory and advanced courses in media writing.
  • A balance of professional industry experience and academic experience.

 APPLICATION DEADLINE:

Screening of applications will begin January 20, 2023. Priority will be given to applicants who meet the screening deadline; however, the position will remain open until filled.
