Description
Amherst College invites applications for the position of Graduate Assistant - Health Education. The Graduate Assistant is a part-time, casual position, with no benefits. The Graduate Assistant within the Offices of Health Education and Community Standards assists in the development of alcohol and other drug curricula and campaigns and provides, via zoom, individual BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students) and CASICS (Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College Students) sessions for the Spring 2021 semester. The Graduate Assistant will also work with members of the community assisting with conflict resolution processes through the Office of Community Standards. The Graduate Assistant will work directly with the Directors of Community Standards and Health Education to engage in individual- and population-level prevention and intervention for students.

The position is 19 hours a week and is eligible for remote or hybrid, on-campus work.

Summary of Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Conflict Resolution/Community Standards
  • Support student success through conflict resolution processes including mediation, adjudication, motivational interviewing, and restorative practices.
  • Support the Office of Community Standards with the management of the Community Standards Adjudication Process.
  • Conduct administrative hearings with students in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct.

BASICS and/or CASICS
  • Conduct two-session BASICS/CASICS appointments with students who self-refer or are referred. Utilizing motivational interviewing, the Graduate Assistant will help students think critically about their alcohol and/or cannabis use.
  • The Graduate Assistant will follow appropriate evidence-based BASICS/CASICS protocols.

Curriculum Development
  • Work with the Alcohol and Other Drug Educator and the Director of Health Education to develop AOD curricula using theory and evidence informed practice for target audiences.

Recordkeeping/Administrative Tasks
  • Maintain student records, track outcomes, protect the confidentiality, privacy, and privilege of these records.

Assessment
  • Track, analyze, assess, and report data related to student conduct, health education, and campus climate.
