Position Summary:
Under the guidance of the Movement Sciences Faculty, the Safe Routes to School (SRTS) Coordinator shall coordinate and disseminate all aspects of the SRTS program and be accountable for all reporting required by the University of Idaho and the Idaho Department of Transportation. We are especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute to diversity and inclusion through SRTS programming. The position is part-time, requiring a 20-hour on site commitment per week.



Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent



  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent
  • Project organization skills.
  • Experience with techniques and procedures used in program development, e.g., budgeting, planning, managing, coordinating, and administering.
  • Experience with computer operation and Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience composing a variety of business documents.
  • Experience editing and writing business correspondent using proper grammar and punctuation as demonstrated in application materials
  • Experience developing and supporting an active base of volunteers and community partners to support the program
  • Experience: working collaboratively as a member of a team; promoting activities using skills such as writing, advertising and design; performing and leading others in program related activities and meetings; preparing reports; managing a variety of projects simultaneously.
  • Experience working independently and the ability to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in Health Education/Promotion, Physical Education, Exercise Science, Education, Recreation, or another related field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with culturally responsive teaching to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
  • Instruction experience of K-8th grade students in health, physical education, physical activity, or recreation.
  • Leadership experience in positive youth development programming in a physical activity, sport, or outdoor setting.
  • Experience in applying a public health approach to walking and biking or positive youth development programming.
  • Experience driving large vehicles and towing trailers
  • Possess interest in promoting safe walking and biking to school
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Personal interest and participation in walking or biking for transportation.
  • Ownership of a bike or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.


Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to lift, carry and/or otherwise move 35 lbs.



Required Licensures, Certifications or other
  • CPR & First Aid or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment, League Cycling Instructor certification with the League of American Bicyclists or be willing to acquire within one year of employment, Driver’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
