Faculty Position of Agriculture Science: Animal Science

Job Details

The School of Science at Buena Vista University seeks a dynamic teacher in the Agricultural Science program focusing on the animal science track for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position. Buena Vista University emphasizes strong teaching skills and preparation of undergraduates for varied futures in the agriculture industry or graduate school. Teaching expectations are for classes specific to animals in agriculture, including animal science, upper-level classes in physiology, nutrition, and reproduction, among others. There is further opportunity to develop elective classes in their area of expertise. In addition, introductory-level courses for non-majors will be required in support of the general education program. BVU has an Ag Experiment Station that is used to provide hands-on learning in the Ag Science courses. An option for a term position with the possibility of renewal, based on the successful candidate’s credentials does remain possible. The preferred start date is August 2023.

The Agricultural Science program in the School of Science was developed in 2019 as part of BVU’s initiative to offer new agricultural programs in the region. The major is grounded in a solid science foundation with advanced courses in animal science that emphasize the anatomy, physiology, genetic improvement, and nutrition of meat production animals. Internships and field experiences are strong and well-supported components of this program.

Commitment to teaching in a liberal arts centered environment is essential. Likewise, service to the university is expected in the form of committee work, continuous professional development, and maintaining pace with the field. Buena Vista values collegiality and an inclusive environment. To foster this objective, members of historically underrepresented groups in science are encouraged to apply to be part of a changing dynamic in higher education.

Please submit your letter of application, graduate school transcripts (photocopies acceptable but official copies required for appointment), teaching evaluation summaries, teaching philosophy statement, and current vita with the names of 4-6 references (including title, address, e-mail address, and telephone number). Due to limited system capabilities, you can only upload one document. Please email your additional application materials to humanresources@bvu.edu and they will be attached to your profile.

A background check will be conducted on the final candidate. Buena Vista University is an EOE/ADA/Smoke-Free Employer, and especially welcomes applications from individuals who will contribute to any aspect of the university’s diversity.
