The University of North Carolina School of the Arts seeks an outstanding violist to recruit, teach, and mentor a studio of highly qualified viola majors. The School of Music is searching for an individual of integrity and collegiality, with the versatility, creativity and vision to help the institution continue to proactively engage with a constantly evolving profession. 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach weekly viola lessons and master classes, and courses required by the curricula
  • Recruit outstanding viola majors
  • Collaborate in faculty performances and maintain an active artistic career
  • Serve on School of Music and UNCSA committees as appropriate
  • Maintain presence on campus appropriate for full-time faculty
  • Other teaching/duties as assigned by the Dean

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with professional experience equivalent to the terminal degree in music, or an equivalent combination of education and professional experience
  • Extensive professional performance profile and experience
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in creative activity, teaching, and service
  • Compassionate mentor to students of varied levels and diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated commitment to recruiting, teaching and fostering the development of young musicians

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Established national and international reputation as a performer with high visibility in the field
  • Entrepreneurial artist with a strong understanding of today’s music industry and the diverse career possibilities available to young, emerging artists
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit outstanding students locally, nationally, and internationally
  • Expertise in a broad range of musical genres and styles
  • Interest and experience in interdisciplinary artistic work
  • Experience and interest in mentoring students in music technology, pedagogy, and outreach and engagement
